Pokemon GO: How to Beat Arlo (January 2021) | Game Rant

As everyone gets ready for all that 2021 has to offer, Pokemon GO is starting the year off with new content for fans. There are all new Research Tasks in Pokemon GO for players to keep themselves entertained for the remainder of the month.

On top of these additions, the team makeup for the Team GO Rocket Leaders in Pokemon GO has changed as well. Every time a Team Rocket Leader's Pokemon changes, it is always pulled from the same small pool of choices, so gamers won't be completely blindsided by their new teams.

In particular, Arlo has a wide variety of types, but there is a strong chance he will use Fire or Dragon-type Pokemon. For Pokemon GO players looking for tips on Arlo's best counters, here are the best Pokemon for the job.

Arlo always starts a match by choosing a shadow Growlithe as the first fighter. Growlithe is normally the weakest out of the three, so there are many flexible options for counters. The most suggested ones are Regirock with Lock On and Stone Edge, Golem with Mud Shot and Rock Blast, Omastar with Mud Shot and Rock Slide, or Swampert with Mud Shot and Hydro Cannon.

For Arlo's second choice, he always goes with either Blastoise, Charizard, or Steelix. These Pokemon have all different weaknesses, so it may be tricky to counter. For Blastoise, some good options are Sceptile with Fury Cutter and Leaf Blade, Venusaur with Vine Whip and Frenzy Plant, Leafeon with Quick Attack and Leaf Blade, or Hydreigon with Dragon Breath and Dark Pulse.

The best counters for Charizard in Pokemon GO include Regirock with Lock On and Stone Edge, Golem with Rock Throw and Rock Blast, Zapdos with Thunder Shock and Ancient Power, or Giratina with Shadow Claw and Ancient Power. Lastly, for Steelix, good Pokemon to use include Heatran with Fire Spin and Flamethrower, Excadrill with Mud Slap and Drill Run, Entei with Fire Spin and Flamethrower, or Swampert with Mud Shot and Hydro Cannon.

Finally, Arlo's last line of defense usually consists of Dragonite, Salamence, or Scizor. For Dragonite, the best options are Dialga with Dragon Breath and Draco Meteor, Regice with Lock On and Blizzard, Mewtwo with Psycho Cut and Ice Beam, or Metagross with Bullet Punch and Meteor Mash.

If Arlo uses Salamence, the best counters include Tyranitar with Smack Down and Crunch, Regice with Lock On and Blizzard, Giratina with Dragon Breath and Dragon Claw, or Togekiss with Charm and Dazzling Gleam. If Arlo uses Scizor, the player should look to use Blaziken with Counter and Blaze Kick, Charizard with Fire Spin and Blast Burn, Entei with Fire Spin Flamethrower, or Typhlosion with Fire Spin and Blast Burn.

Generally, the best advice to give no matter what type Arlo uses is to force him to use up his shields so players can hit him with charged attacks. Using one of the counters on the list will almost always get the job done. There are many options, but some Pokemon show up as good counters for more than one of Arlo's Pokemon, so try focusing on them. Hopefully, this guide helps players put a stop to Team GO Rocket's plans.

Pokemon GO is available now on Android and iOS.
