Puzzle Quest 3 Announced With New Trailer | Game Rant

Earlier in January, Italian game publisher 505 Games announced that it had acquired Infinity Plus Two, the studio behind the free-to-play multiplatform title Gems of War and the Puzzle Quest series, which first appeared on the Nintendo DS and PlayStation Portable consoles in 2007. And now Puzzle Quest 3, a third entry in the original series has been announced.

The mainline Puzzle Quest titles combine RPG mechanics, such as questing, leveling up, and acquiring new gear to improve combat skills, with the match-3 puzzle elements of games like Bejeweled. In keeping with the features that made the original two games successful, Puzzle Quest 3 will bring fans the balance of role-playing and strategic puzzle-solving that they have come to expect.

Puzzle Quest 3 offers an all-new adventure, taking place 500 years after the events of the original game, sending players on a journey across the land of Etheria to uncover the dying words of an ancient Red Dragon. The game’s turn-based battle system entails matching three or more tiles on the gameboard in order to unleash a variety of attacks, like spells and stuns. The latest entry in the Puzzle Quest series will “push the genre limits by introducing new and imaginative gameplay mechanics.”

The official announcement of Puzzle Quest 3 mentions “an intense 1-versus-1 battle system realized in a 3D game world.” What this means exactly is not explained, but previous entries in the series featured a flat animated game board for the puzzle segments and a 2D isometric view for navigation in the game world.

The first game in the series, Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords, experienced great success when it launched and has amassed an estimated 32 million users globally since its release. The game proved so popular that it was eventually ported to multiple platforms. It spawned extended content, the direct sequel Puzzle Quest 2, a number of spinoff titles, and even a Nintendo Switch remaster in 2019.

Puzzle Quest 3 will release on Mobile and PC in 2021.
