Teppen Adding New Character Oichi | Game Rant
Capcom’s card fighting mobile game, Teppen, launched The Battle of Amatsu No Kuni expansion today alongside the new Dark Element Hero Oichi. The demonic combatant enters the battle from the Sengoku Basara series, becoming the franchise’s first Hero character in Teppen.
Sengoku Basara’s Oichi is known as one of the most tragic characters in the series, having succumbed to insanity while grieving over the death of her husband by her brother’s army. Dark forces once again take control over Oichi at the start of “The Battle of Amatsu No Kuni’s” story, leading her to succumb to the void and become a demon queen.
As one might expect with the title “Demon Queen,” Oichi joins Capcom antagonists Akuma and Albert Wesker as Teppen’s newest Black Element Hero. She is equipped with three unique Hero Arts: Dancing Dead, Dark Invitation, and Despair, wail, and perish! All three abilities utilize a player’s Graveyard to their advantage, providing buffs, heals, and damage-dealing capabilities with the help of fallen units. Additionally, “The Battle of Amatsu No Kuni” adds a number of new cards for the game’s Light Army commander Tokugawa Ieyasu and Dark Army commander Ishida Mitsunari, providing new strategies and loadouts for players to explore.
Seeming to take a page from other successful card games like Blizzard’s mega-successful Hearthstone, Capcom’s take on the virtual card game genre has been a successful venture since its 2019 release. The legendary video game development company has carved out its own niche in the genre by opting for real-time battles. Players have much less time to decide on their next moves, offering fans of the virtual card games a fast-paced alternative to the norm.
In addition to its unique gameplay, Capcom has no shortage of iconic heroes and villains to join the game's cast. Teppen features the company’s most beloved franchises, including Street Fighter, Resident Evil, and Mega Man just to name a few. In fact, characters from the critically acclaimed series Okami recently joined the game’s cast. Seeing characters like Street Fighter’s Ryu go blow for blow with characters like Devil May Cry’s Dante in a card duel will always be satisfying. Nostalgia can be a powerful thing, especially when it’s backed by microtransactions and collectibles.
Teppen is out now for iOS and Android mobile devices.
