Xbox Fan Turns Broken Controller Into Man Cave Decoration

When compared to other gaming platforms like Nintendo or PlayStation, Xbox is the youngest, with the original Xbox releasing in November 2001. Despite this, Xbox has grown quite a lot since that point, with the platform currently occupying nearly 35 percent of the console market share, according to a recent GamingSmart study, and a dedicated fanbase. In fact, one member of the fanbase has developed a way to stylize broken Xbox controllers.

Video games are a disposable medium. A publisher can release an inventive, next-gen console with an impressive list of hardware specs at the time, but in six-to-ten years that console will likely look quite antiquated by comparison to any upcoming system. Recently, a 912 pound box of PlayStation consoles was auctioned off at Goodwill and sold for a little over nine hundred dollars, which is weird to think about considering the original retail cost of each, and how every one of those systems would put the value of that box at thousands of dollars.

In any case, while gaming hardware can last quite a long time, it does possess a kind of shelf life. When a controller or console breaks or stops working, they're typically donated or recycled. However, one Xbox fan by the name of EwokNuggets on Reddit managed to make a man cave decoration out of a broken Xbox controller.

Instead of throwing the controller away and replacing it, the fan deconstructed the controller and put it in a nice, decorative display case to hang in his man-cave. This is actually quite an ingenious way to get some further mileage out of a broken Xbox One controller, while simultaneously celebrating their love of gaming.

It's surprising that this kind of thing isn't more prominent within the gaming community, considering the controller is already broken, so deconstructing it and putting it on display shouldn't be too difficult of a process. In fact, it's easy to imagine someone like Xbox head Phil Spencer having a decoration like this in his home, given his deep connection to Xbox in terms of both the brand and the hardware.

If anything, now is probably the best time to be an Xbox fan. The successful launch of the Xbox Series X/S has given numerous players around the world the chance to experience the next generation of gaming. Not to mention all of the next-gen titles awaiting players in the coming years, such as Avowed, The Medium, Fable, and Halo Infinite.
