Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Hit With Uninstall Bug on PS5
Video game bugs are never fun, but certain ones can drastically impact the experience, leading to a frustrating time of trying to get things to work. It appears that one such impactful bug is plaguing PS5 owners that try to uninstall and reinstall Call of Duty: Modern Warfare at the moment, with the issue so severe that it's even blocking the game from working entirely, according to some players.
A post by u/puzzled-soup is making the rounds on Reddit right now, with the user shedding some light on an apparently severe Call of Duty: Modern Warfare bug. According to the user, trying to reinstall Modern Warfare onto a PS5 without manually uninstalling all of the game's data packs, which are necessary for each of Modern Warfare's modes, will cause the install to break completely, making it unplayable.
Upon investigating the issue, players may find that the complete install is nearly 100 GB less than what it should be, with puzzled-soup stating that their install was only 93 GB despite it originally pushing 200 GB. The user has tried a number of methods to get the game to work, all to no avail. The only workaround is reportedly to download the game onto an SSD from a PS4, then play it on the PS5 from the SSD.
In the comments on the post, other users have chimed in, claiming to have experienced the issues themselves. Only one user has offered a different workaround, stating that completely resetting the PS5 and reinstalling Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, should help, but no users have reported success with the method quite yet. Plus, resetting the PS5, reinstalling all of Modern Warfare, and reinstalling any other games that happened to be on the system is a massive time sink.
It's unfortunate that users are experiencing such a major issue. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has had invisibility bugs, hackers, and a plethora of other issues, but the game being rendered completely unplayable certainly tops the list of problems.
With any luck, Activision and Infinity Ward will have a solution to the problem soon, though puzzled-soup says that Activision Support has been unable to help thus far. It's not entirely clear where the issue is with the uninstallation process, but given how small the PS5's storage space is and how much room Call of Duty: Modern Warfare takes up, it's fair to say a number of players will be disappointed if they try to reinstall the game without taking the proper steps before uninstalling.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The game is available on PS5 and Xbox Series X through backward compatibility.
