El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron PC Port Announced

In 2011 a game named El Shaddai was released on PS3 and Xbox 360 that largely went ignored by the gaming community. Despite that, within certain circles it was lauded as one of the year's best titles. Its more artfully-minded direction, however, kept it from reaching more than a dedicated cult audience. That cult audience's love of El Shaddai has now borne fruit, as El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron has been announced for a PC port.

El Shaddai producer Sawaki Takeyasu confirmed the announcement with a short statement giving thanks to "PC gamers and fans of the game" who had constantly asked for a port over the past 10 years.  Due to their efforts, El Shaddai will be ported to PC via Steam. While Takeyasu said the El Shaddai port will be released "soon," an official release date was not shared.

As for what El Shaddai is all about, it's an action game based on a biblical story told in the Book of Enoch. It involves protagonist Enoch seeking to prevent the great flood, challenging seven fallen angels who have been sharing forbidden knowledge from God with humanity. Enoch challenges the angels through combat, so El Shaddai is built around fast-paced third-person action that's inspired by games like Devil May Cry. That said, it's a linear, narrative-driven experience at heart.

Why El Shaddai is being brought to PC now, ten years later, is certainly a mystery. The game's flaws are likely to be all the more glaring in 2021. Regardless, it inarguably has a cult following, and making El Shaddai available to those fans and new players as well deserves to be cheered given few cult classics receive such an opportunity.

El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron is in development for PC.
