Monster Hunter Rise Screenshot Seemingly Confirms Barroth
Capcom has been showing off new monsters in Monster Hunter Rise since its announcement back in September. Some have been confirmed via specialized introductions in trailers, while some could be spotted in the general gameplay footage used. Now, however, it looks like a screenshot of the quest list in Monster Hunter Rise has revealed the return of Barroth.
The Japanese website Inside posted several screenshots showing its hunt with the new Rise monster, Bishaten. In the series of screenshots was the quest posting for the Bishaten hunt. Several other quests were visible in this screenshot, including a quest that has Barroth's Japanese name, Boruborosu. The quest itself is the fourth quest from the top. This would also coincide with an earlier leak that included Barroth.
Barroth was first introduced into the Monster Hunter series in its third generation with Monster Hunter Tri, and has been seen several times since. It also has an ice variant, the Jade Barroth, but that particular subspecies has shown up far less frequently than its standard counterpart, with Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate being the only main series game it appeared in outside of Japan. It did, however, make an appearance in the spin-off Monster Hunter Stories.
The standard Barroth was last seen in Monster Hunter World: Iceborne though, so anyone who jumped on board with the series with Monster Hunter World will be familiar with this monster. With just seeing the name on the quest board, it is of course unclear how Barroth will behave in Monster Hunter Rise or what areas of the game it will be found in.
Given that Barroth appeared in the Wildspire Wastes in Monster Hunter: World, it is probably a safe bet that Barroth will appear in the recently revealed Sandy Plains area in Rise. Barroth will join Jyuratodus and newcomer Almudron as monsters that can slow hunters down by slinging mud across the battlefield.
Monster Hunter Rise will release on Switch on March 26, 2021.
