Star Wars Battlefront 2005 Patch Pulled After It Breaks the Game
The 2005 version of Star Wars: Battlefront 2, developed by Pandemic Studios, recently received a patch a stunning fifteen years after the game released. However, while this is the first patch for Battlefront 2 in years, it came with a number of issues that seem to have broken the game in a few ways, leading to the update quickly being pulled.
According to Lucasfilms Games, Star Wars: Battlefront 2's publisher, this removal has come after reviewing feedback from fans that resulted from players running into new issues brought on by the patch. Considering how long its been since the game had been updated before, seeing support come for such an old title had initially been met with quite a bit of positivity, until players noticed the issues.
Many of the issues that players ran into ranged from visual complications, such as warped fields of view, poor resolution, and difficulties with the user interface. Additionally, some players experienced worse results, including regular game crashes which eventually made logging into the game at all into a hassle. The issue that troubled most of the game's community, however, was the way that the patch made Battlefront 2's mods incompatible with this new version, which have become a staple for the continued longevity of the fifteen year old title.
Fortunately, the game has been reverted to its previous setting, so if players download the latest version, it should bring them back to a mod compatible version without the prevalent crashes hitting Battlefront 2. The unfortunate point is that neither the developer or publisher has opened up about whether a new patch will be coming to replace the recent one. Many fans are hoping to see a cleaned-up version of the update return, but it may be a bit of a task to make sure that of all the issues, mods don't become incompatible in a new version.
Seeing a game as old as the 2005 version of Star Wars: Battlefront 2 continue to receive updates like this is always great, especially when there is a community of players still signing on after all this time. However, this type of bugged patch isn't exactly uncommon when trying to support older titles, and many players may want to be cautious about updating right away in the future. Still, this likely won't be the last time the game will be updated, but hopefully Battlefront 2 modders will be able to roll with the next patch and keep their fan-created content working.
Star Wars: Battlefront 2 is available now for PC, PS2, and Xbox.
