Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 Reveals First Switch Gameplay
Last year saw the release of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2, and a significant portion of the gaming community welcomed the legendary skating franchise back with open arms. With updated graphics and polish, while still maintaining the classic control scheme and gameplay mechanics of the original games, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 saw a massive amount of success. Now, the remake of the classic games is coming to additional platforms.
Earlier today, it was announced that Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 would be coming to PS5, Xbox Series X, and Nintendo Switch, along with additional upgrades. This will let players experience or re-experience the game on next-gen platforms and allow Nintendo fans to play the game on the platform of their choice. Though, it does beg to question how well the game will perform on Nintendo Switch compared to other gaming platforms.
Gameplay footage of the game being played on a Nintendo Switch was recently released on IGN's YouTube channel and from what has been shown, the game appears to run as smoothly as it would on any other system. That's certainly good for Nintendo users who don't have access to any of the other platforms and wish to experience the game on the Switch without having to sacrifice anything in terms of graphical quality.
While the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater series has appeared on other Nintendo platforms in the past, such as the port of the original Tony Hawk's Pro Skater on the Nintendo 64, the control layout of the Nintendo Switch could make the controls for the game difficult to get used to. Considering how much Nintendo has changed up the control layout of the Switch compared to other platforms the game has previously released on.
The original games released on the first Xbox and PS1 and carried over to subsequent console generations, but one could argue that the reason why Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 found so much success was that it was originally released just on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Given the layout of the controllers on either system have remained largely unchanged through every single iteration of each respective console, it made the classic control scheme of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater easy to pick back up.
In any case, the fact that the game is getting ports to additional systems certainly means that the demand for the game is quite high. This could potentially lead to a resurgence in skateboard games. With the release of Skate 4 on the horizon, it makes one wonder what else is in store in terms of skateboard fans.
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with PS5, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series X/S versions of the game releasing later this year.
