Warner Bros is Planning a Triple-A Free-to-Play Game | Game Rant
Though video game developers are often tight lipped about their upcoming projects, there are a few places where information has to be made available to the public. One such place is in job listings, and Warner Bros has posted a few intriguing ones recently that point towards a new secret project being undertaken by the developer. Over the course of February 11th and February 12th, at least 12 new job listings were posted on Warner Bros Games San Diego's career page, each containing references to the mysterious upcoming game. Now that this info has come to light, fans are running wild with speculation.
It should be said that any speculation on this information should be taken with a grain of salt. Warner Bros is only just now starting to hire for the project, meaning if it does come to fruition it will likely still be years before anything is even announced. In that amount of time, any number of things could change, and worst case scenario the project could even be scrapped.
One of the most telling job listings posted last week is for the Game Systems Designer, which lists the upcoming game as "a new AAA, free-to-play, cross-platform game." This already tells fans a lot, but there are still a ton of questions to be answered. Cross platform implies that it will likely launch on major consoles and potentially PC as well, but free to play really makes things interesting. The free to play genre has expanded greatly over the past few years, with titles like Genshin Impact being completely different from others like Call of Duty: Warzone. It's still unclear which of these approaches Warner Bros might take or if it has its own idea in mind.
Another job listing with some interesting information is Senior Combat Designer, as this gives a little more insight on characters and the like. Of note, the job listing requires a candidate capable of creating "varied, unique, and balanced abilities and move sets across multiple characters." This implies that characters will each have different movesets, pointing towards something more like Genshin Impact as opposed to Fortnite or Call of Duty: Warzone. It also shows that there will be a wide variety of playable characters, and given Genshin Impact's huge success, it's not unreasonable to assume this could be Warner Bros' attempt at the gacha game model.
Linked below is the job listing page for Warner Bros Games San Diego, and a wealth of information can be learned about this supposed project by skimming through those listings. As previously mentioned, it may be best for players to simply keep this in the back of their minds, as it's unlikely that anything will be revealed anytime soon.
