Apex Legends Redesigning Skins Due to Chinatown Market Rebranding

Respawn Entertainment recently collaborated with popular clothing brand Chinatown Market to release a collection of Apex Legends skins themed after the Chinatown Market brand. The Apex Legends skins were scheduled to release on March 30, but the release has been delayed due to a rebranding by the clothing company.

In light of the recent rise in hate crimes against Asian-Americans, the clothing brand has announced a name change from Chinatown Market. The clothing brand's former name is "inspired by the shops, people, and the vibrance of Canal Street and Chinatown in New York." However, the brand does not believe the name is right to use and did not consider the impact on Chinatown communities around the world. Due to the clothing company rebranding, the skins created for Apex Legends will be redesigned to reflect the change in branding.

After revealing both Lifeline and Bloodhound's upcoming collaboration skins, Respawn is standing with the clothing brand's decision to rebrand and will not release the collection of skins tomorrow. Both Lifeline and Bloodhound's skins feature the words "Chinatown Market" on the outfits, something that will be removed during the redesign.

Respawn Entertainment has yet to announce when the skins will be released, but it is possible that the delay will be a substantial amount of time, as the clothing company has stated, "We will be announcing our new name in the coming months." Respawn may wait until the clothing brand announces its new name, or it is possible that the redesign could entail removing the former name of the brand from the skins without major redesigns.

Although the delay in the release of the skins may disappoint some players, the Apex Legends community has been treated with two events virtually back-to-back, with the second-anniversary event running an extra week due to log-in issues, while the Chaos Theory event, which added a Caustic Town Takeover, just concluded last week. Both events featured prize trackers with free cosmetic rewards and a collection of cosmetics available to purchase. Respawn also launched a patch for Apex Legends today that fixes a number of crashing issues, stability fixes, and fixes menu issues on Nintendo Switch versions.

Many fans are looking forward to Season 9 of Apex Legends even though Season 8 is not expected to end until the beginning of May. One leaker has found files that suggest Titanfall 2 antagonist Blisk being the Season 9 legend, although he has already been falsely leaked in a previous season. Respawn has a history of falsely leaking legends, like in Season 4 with Forge. Regardless, if Blisk is the Season 9 legend, his leaked abilities may need some changes, as many believe they are overpowered.

Apex Legends is out now on PC, PlayStation 4, Switch, and Xbox One.
