Cyberpunk 2077 Has Signage for Missing Feature | Game Rant
Fans have noticed that Cyberpunk 2077 features signs pointing toward a player activity that was removed from the game. While this would be mildly disappointing on its own, it likely reminds fans of how much additional content was cut during Cyberpunk 2077's development.
Although it may be hard to believe after the game's maligned launch, fans once believed Cyberpunk 2077 would be one of the most ambitious games ever made. At various points during development, the developers teased a variety of deep role-playing systems that would impact every detail of the player's journey through Night City. This hype also benefited from the now-famous demonstration of Keanu Reeves' involvement in one of the most striking game trailers of 2019, along with rumors closer to release about the game being long and filled with content.
As noted by Reddit user pablo397, the Vista Del Rey section of Night City's Heywood gives multiple indications that a shooting range should be present. Signage points to the shooting range, the closest fast-travel point is named "Shooting Range," and the shooting range even has a sign declaring it is open. Attempting to access it is impossible, however, as the doors remain locked. Using what appears to be a mod, pablo397 went behind the locked doors to see what could be found, but there was nothing meaningful.
It would be strange enough to exclude shooting ranges from the game, but the player can access them in very limited situations. While the player's own apartment building has the Second Amendment gun store, which includes a shooting range, the player normally can't access it. The only time it is possible to use is while completing the Shoot to Thrill gig, after which it becomes inaccessible again. While there is another freely accessible shooting range in Kabuki, there is no way for players to trigger a shooting competition in the style of the Shoot to Thrill event.
There are plenty of additional structures visible in Night City that the player cannot access or use. This includes an entirely unused Night City monorail tram system, property ownership, and extensive customization options for characters, weapons, and cars. While the finished game does have a decent amount of content, its role-playing possibilities are relatively shallow, and the huge amount of cut content is likely part of the reason why.
A lot of content was cut very late into the game's development cycle, implying the game received many changes and cuts before release. In fact, key information in the official Cyberpunk 2077 strategy guide was outdated on publication, leaving players without a strategy for accessing the game's secret ending. If the game had been further delayed, perhaps features like the shooting range could be fully implemented, leading to an improved experience overall.
Cyberpunk 2077 is available on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Stadia, with PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions in development.
