FIFA Tournament Will Feature Jason Sudeikis as Ted Lasso and Trevor Noah
The world of esports is competative, endurance testing, and attainable only to the best players, from the AGDQ players raising money for charity while speed running classic games, to the well trained esports teams competing against other top gamers. Indeed, having a certain level of skill seems like an obvious qualifier for getting in on an esports competition, but that's not always the case, especially when celebrities and charities get involved, like Jason Sudeikis' Ted Lasso and Trevor Noah joining FIFA 21 tournament "FIFA Face-Off."
The tournament is being hosted by Twitch streamer Castro 1021, a player who regularly streams FIFA 21 content, and will include celebrities like Brendan Hunt, Becky G, and Nicky Jam in addition to Sudeikis and Noah. While it appears other guests are playing in the tournament as themselves, Jason Sudeikis is competing as his character Ted Lasso from the AppleTV + show of the same name.
The comedian revealed the choice by releasing a statement saying, "Having previously no experience coaching soccer, or football if you will, I think Ted Lasso is the perfect candidate for dominating in an EA Sports FIFA esports competition." For his part, Trevor Noah is a well-known celebrity video game enthusiast, though it's uncertain whether the Daily Show host has any prior experience with FIFA 21.
Celebrities in the tournament are being paired up with pro players and the teams are competing for a $25,000 prize pool. Like many esports competitions, FIFA Face-Off will stream live on Twitch as opposed to competitors like YouTube. The first part of the competition can be watched on EA's FIFA Twitch channel, EASPORTSFIFA, where the second portion of the competition is set to stream on March 26 at 12:30 PM ET.
FIFA 21 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
