Google Stadia Datamine Points to Touchscreen Support | Game Rant
Google Stadia has faced quite the rocky release in its less than two years of existence. From underwhelming sales figures to losing key figures involved in Stadia game development, one would think that the platform is on its deathbed. But fortunately for the fans that are still around, Stadia is still getting some new features fairly soon.
The recent version 3.9 update has been datamined, revealing several possible tidbits about future updates to the service. Within the files, dataminers found strong evidence that touch support, and other new features, will be coming to Google Stadia sooner rather than later.
Text in the app's files reveals that players will soon be able to play certain Stadia games on their phone without needing a controller, instead using the phone's touch screen. Microsoft's xCloud service dabbles in something similar, so it only makes sense that Google will attempt the idea with its own streaming service. A little transparent graphic displaying these capabilities was also found.
Other new features found in this update include a 'Player Notes' feature, allowing one to label who each person on their friend list is. This feature would only be privately available, useful for labeling who has each online handle. Another significant discovery is mentions of an Android TV app within the files, signaling that Stadia will become available on more platforms sometime within the next few months.
Other than these behind-the-scenes changes, the Stadia app remains mostly the same. These future updates are exciting for Stadia fans, but will likely do little to entice new folks to join the service. Google Stadia has underperformed significantly internally, and it will take a miracle for this service to turn around. At the very least, these future updates will create a slightly better experience with the platform overall.
