Pokemon GO: How to Beat Arlo (March 2021) | Game Rant
The leaders of Team GO Rocket in Pokemon GO all have their own collection of powerful Pokemon they will use against players. Arlo is one of these leaders, with his own dangerous team compositions that can take any unprepared players off guard.
Like with the other leaders of Team GO Rocket, Arlo has multiple possibilities when it comes to the Pokemon that players will face in Pokemon GO. There is no way to know for sure what Arlo will use unless players rematch him in the same encounter.
Even if players aren't planning on facing Arlo, defeating him is necessary for those that want to complete the All the Higher They Fly special research tasks. His defeat is one of the tasks for the series' fourth step.
Arlo's first Pokemon will always be Beldum, a dual Steel and Psychic-type Pokemon. It is weak to Fire, Dark, Ground, and Ghost-type moves while also resisting damage from Dragon, Ice, Normal, Grass, Steel, Rock, Flying, Fairy, Psychic, and Poison-type moves.
While the sheer number of resistances that Beldum has can be overwhelming for some players, there are still plenty of Pokemon that can play against this Pokemon's weaknesses. Some of the best ones in this case are:
- Chandelure - Incinerate and Shadow Ball
- Gengar - Lick and Shadow Ball
- Unovan Darmanitan - Incinerate and Overheat
- Galarian Darmanitan - Ice Fang and Overheat
- Entei - Fire Fang and Overheat
The first possible Pokemon that can be in Arlo's second party slot is Gardevoir. Gardevoir is a dual Psychic and Fairy-type Pokemon, making it weak to Poison, Ghost, and Steel-type moves while also resisting Psychic, Fighting, and Dragon-type moves.
Arlo's Gardevoir has been known to cause plenty of trouble for players that go against it. Like with the rest of his Pokemon, it's best to play against its weaknesses to decrease the amount of time it has to damage players' Pokemon. The best Pokemon in this case are:
- Metagross - Bullet Punch and Meteor Mash
- Gengar - Lick and Shadow Ball
- Chandelure - Hex and Shadow Ball
- Attack Deoxys - Poison Jab and Zap Cannon
- Dialga - Metal Claw and Iron Head
Another possible Pokemon that Arlo can use is the dual Fire and Fighting-type Pokemon, Infernape. Its typing makes it weak to Flying, Ground, Psychic, and Water-type moves while also allowing it to resist damage from Steel, Grass, Ice, Dark, Fire, and Bug-type moves.
Like Arlo's other Pokemon, Infernape can make for a tough opponent. Some of the most helpful Pokemon that can be used against it are:
- Mewtwo - Confusion and Psystrike
- Attack Deoxys - Zen Headbutt and Psycho Boost
- Alakazam - Confusion and Psychic
- Espeon - Confusion and Psychic
- Azelf - Confusion and Future Sight
The final Pokemon that Arlo can use as his second Pokemon is Aggron, a dual Steel and Rock-type Pokemon. Aggron's type means that it is weak to Ground, Fighting, and Water-type moves while resisting Dragon, Ice, Psychic, Fairy, Bug, Rock, Flying, Normal, and Poison-type moves.
Like with Beldum, Aggron's number of resistances can be intimidating, but they do not take away from the weaknesses that it does have. The Pokemon that can best take advantage of these weaknesses are:
- Mamoswine - Mud-slap and Bulldoze
- Walrein - Waterfall and Earthquake
- Piloswine - Powder Snow and Bulldoze
- Walrein - Waterfall and Earthquake
- Roserade - Bullet Seed and Grass Knot
The most dangerous out of all of Arlo's Pokemon is his Scizor, a powerful dual Bug and Steel-type Pokemon. Scizor is only weak to Fire-type moves and resists Dragon, Ice, Psychic, Normal, Bug, Steel, Fairy, Grass, and Poison-type moves.
Players will need to bring out the best of the best when it comes to Fire-type Pokemon and Pokemon capable of using Fire-type moves. Scizor can quickly get off moves and cut through players' Pokemon if they get caught off guard. Because of this, some of the best Pokemon to put against Scizor are:
- Reshiram - Fire Fang and Overheat
- Chandelure - Fire Spin and Overheat
- Unovan Darmanitan - Fire Fang and Overheat
- Blaziken - Fire Spin and Blast Burn
- Flareon - Fire Spin and Overheat
Another possibility for Arlo's third and final party member is the dual Rock and Bug-type Pokemon, Armaldo. This Pokemon is weak to Water, Rock, and Steel-type moves while only resisting Poison and Normal-type moves.
Compared to many of Arlo's other Pokemon, Armaldo doesn't nearly have as many intimidating resistances. Armaldo additionally has weaknesses that are relatively common and give players multiple options when approaching how to take it down. Some recommended Pokemon for this task include:
- Aggron - Iron Tail and Heavy Slam
- Armaldo - Fury Cutter and Rock Blast
- Mamoswine - Mud-Slap and Ancient Power
- Walrein - Waterfall and Water Pulse
- Lairon - Metal Claw and Heavy Slam
The last Pokemon that Arlo can possibly use is Salamence, a dual Dragon and Flying-type Pokemon. Salamence is weak to Ice, Fairy, Dragon, and Rock-type Pokemon moves while resisting Fighting, Water, Bug, Fire, Grass, and Ground-type moves.
Like many of Arlo's other Pokemon, Salamence can provide players with quite a few problems in battle. One of these problems is in how players will be unable to know what fast move Salamence knows before going into battle with it. It can know either Bite, Fire Fang, or Dragon Tail, meaning that this could put certain Salamence counters at higher risk. However, just like how Arlo's party composition will remain the same if players rematch him within the same encounter, Salamence's moveset will also stay the same.
Since Bite is a Dark-type move, it doesn't put the majority of Salamence's counters at risk if it's in use. Dragon Tail, meanwhile, is a Dragon-type move, meaning that using any Dragon-type Pokemon becomes risky. For both of these moves, the same Pokemon are recommended to use against Salamence, with them being:
- Galarian Darmanitan - Ice Fang and Avalanche
- Black Kyurem - Dragon Tail and Blizzard
- Mamoswine - Powder Snow and Avalanche
- Weavile - Ice Shard and Avalanche
- Glaceon - Frost Breath
Fire Fang meanwhile is a Fire-type move, which has the potential to deal a lot of damage toward the Ice-type Pokemon recommended above. If Arlo's Salamence is using Fire Fang, the best Pokemon to use instead are:
- Salamence - Dragon Tail and Outrage
- Dragonite - Dragon Tail and Outrage
- Mega Charizard X - Dragon Breath and Dragon Claw
- Rayquaza - Dragon Tail and Outrage
- Palkia - Dragon Tail and Draco Meteor
Pokemon GO is available on Android and iOS.
