Risk of Rain 2 Announces 'Major' Anniversary Update | Game Rant
This continues to be a big year for video game-related anniversaries. From huge milestones like Sonic the Hedgehog's 30th anniversary to smaller events like indie game Devil Daggers celebrating its 5th anniversary. Now, another indie game, Risk of Rain 2, is marking its 2nd birthday by releasing a big update that adds new items, gameplay adjustments, as well as quality-of-life and bug fixes.
Risk of Rain 2 is a third-person shooter from Hopoo Games with single and multiplayer modes where one-to-four players work together to find a stage's randomly-placed teleporter and clear hordes of enemies. The game was released in Early Access on March 27, 2019 for PC, and eventually got its full release on August 11 that same year.
The anniversary patch adds morgue and account stats to the logbook as well as new lunar and boss items. The update also brings new skill variants, class challenges, and lore entries on top of a plethora of bug fixes and quality-of-life tweaks. Interestingly, the anniversary patch also completely revamps the last level of Risk of Rain 2, something developers had already done once before when the game left Early Access.
Finally, the update makes several changes to enemy AI pathfinding abilities, as well as strengths and weaknesses against certain attacks. Many of the game's items have also seen some fine tuning, with heal rates and damage boosts seeing notable alterations. With Risk of Rain 2's fanbase totaling three million players, it appears the roguelike shooter will continue to see support from Hopoo Games for years to come.
Risk of Rain 2 is currently available for PC, PS4, Stadia, Switch, and Xbox One.
