Sonic the Hedgehog Gets Clever Stop-Motion Cartoon With Fridge Magnets
The Sonic the Hedgehog series is well known for its colorful and imaginative zones, many of which have ties to real world locations such as Sonic 2's Casino Night Zone. Now, thanks to a stop motion animation shared on the blue blur's official Twitter account, fans can see what a Sonic refrigerator zone might look like.
When the Sonic Twitter account isn't teasing EA Games or other competitors, it is often sharing unique hedgehog related animations and art pieces. A quick scroll through the account's feed reveals dancing Eggman animations and a long list of Sonic memes, with the new stop motion video in particular catching the eye of many fans.
The animation was made using fridge magnets of classic Sonic sprites from the games and all takes place on the front of a blue fridge that looks to be straight out of the 1950s. The magnet versions of Sonic and his pals run through the imagined refrigerator zone, collecting rings and squashing badniks. While many fans were hoping the tweet would announce the long awaited next Sonic game, it appears the animation was simply made and posted for fun.
With 2021 marking the hedgehog's 30th anniversary, Sonic's Twitter account has been posting a lot of "just because" content, though fans are still holding out hope that a new video game will be released to mark the special occasion. Sega has so far been fairly tight lipped about any new game and if it will come out this year, but the company is releasing special 30th anniversary Sonic comics as well as figurines, and a Sonic the Hedgehog encyclopedia that covers the mascot's 30 year history.
