We Were Here Forever Coming to Next-Gen Consoles | Game Rant
One of the most exciting aspects of indie game development is being able to see indie studios grow and improve. Few studios represent that idea better than Total Mayhem Games and its popular We Were Here series. Total Mayhem Games has released three games since 2017, each expanding on the creativity of the game prior. Now the team is ready to deliver its latest iteration of the co-op puzzle game. Introducing We Were Here Forever, tentatively planned for release in 2021, including on next-gen consoles.
We Were Here Forever locks players within the realm of Castle Rock with no escape. All that players have at hand is a note from the mysterious Jester. The note asks whether the players were betrayed or left behind, tasking the players with acquiring something ambiguous and threatening them to be lost in Castle Rock forever if they don't deliver. It's not quite horror, but clearly, We Were Here Forever is trying to add a spooky atmosphere to the series.
The gameplay of We Were Here Forever sounds much like the previous games in the series. It's a first-person experience that requires two players, as it's filled with puzzles that can't be solved alone. Using walkie-talkies, players will communicate how puzzles work and solve them together.
We Were Here Too gave fans more of the free-to-play experience found in the original We Were Here. We Were Here Together grew larger due to earlier criticism, adding more puzzles and game length. Now, We Were Here Forever looks like it'll respond to the next-biggest criticism of the game series, which is a lack of compelling story. Total Mayhem Games is promising a spooky experience that'll keep players on the edge of their seats.
We Were Here Forever releases in 2021 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
