Bungie Reveals New Destiny 2 Weapons Coming to Iron Banner Next Season
Veterans of Destiny 2: Beyond Light will be very familiar with the PvP challenge Iron Banner. Bungie's sci-fi shooter offers plenty of ways to compete, but in this limited time event, Power Level matters. There are special rewards for the mode, and new weapons are coming in the next season of Destiny 2.
The special game mode, run by Lord Saladin, has been around for most of Destiny's history. Though it only lasts a week, fans can rack up Iron Banner tokens and complete bounties to earn gear. Those following the game will know that plenty of changes are coming in the next season. Though with the latest weekly update, it looks like Bungie is going to offer some twists to the classic rewards.
The title for the season is unknown, but the team is giving a peek at some of the extras coming. When it starts in May, Lord Saladin will have additional weapon rewards for playing Iron Banner. Long time fans will know of the first two, which includes a Hand Cannon and Sniper Rifle. The former is an Energy weapon known as Finite Impactor, and the latter is Occluded Finality, also of the Energy type. These are from Year 1 of the game, which plays into Bungie's plan to revitalize weapons from the past.
That said, the team is being tight-lipped about the other two new pieces coming next season. From the picture, it is clear that one will be a Shotgun and the other is a Machine Gun. It is unclear how each will perform, but the new weapons should encourage players to join Iron Banner matches. From the post, it sounds like Bungie is also working on unique armor for future Iron Banner weeks. While these will not be coming for a few seasons, it will mesh well with the upcoming transmog system coming in Destiny 2.
A large part of the appeal for the title is collecting weapons and donning stylish armor. While Iron Banner offers competitive action not seen in regular Crucible, the rewards can get old after a while. Now that Bungie is going to be adding new Iron Banner weapon in Destiny 2, there will be good reason to hop back in for more. Even though it does not include the wide variety of equipment available in the game, the options shown will be handy for most loadouts.
The thing is, some players could be disappointed to learn that two are from Year 1. Bringing back old weapons is a hard pill to swallow, especially when Bungie vaulted content from Destiny 2. Plus, with only four new weapons to acquire, it probably will not take hardcore players long to earn them all. All in all, more content is always welcome in the game, and the Iron Banner awards look to be unique additions.
Destiny 2: Beyond Light is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
