Demon Slayer Video Game Gets New Trailer Focusing on Sakonji Urokodaki
Despite only debuting back in 2019, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba has quickly transformed into one of modern anime's most recognizable and successful franchises, with its recent film adaptation, Mugen Train, becoming the most successful movie of all time in Japan. It seems the franchise is looking to conquer an all-new audience soon, with Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Hinokami Keppuutan bringing the series to the realm of video games.
So far, the upcoming adaptation has announced an array of popular faces from the show will be playable in the title, including lead characters Tanjiro and Nezuko, as well as Inosuke, Zenitsu, and Giya. Recently, CyberConnect2 and Aniplex released a new trailer for the game (later made available for Western viewers by Gematsu), this time showing off a new playable character in Tanjiro's powerful mentor, Sakonji Urokodaki.
Going one-on-one with Tanjiro, the promo shows that the ex-Hashira will be faithful to his appearance in the manga and the anime, sporting his iconic tengu mask and water-breathing fighting style. Quite fittingly, his moves are similar to Tanjiro's, as he attacks in long strides and uses water-based abilities to juggle enemy combatants. More advanced moves at his disposal appear to be the ability to summon bamboo from the ground and launch opponents over his shoulder with powerful throws. His special attack sees him slice opponents up before rising in the air and unleashing a deadly tidal wave.
The character will join the current roster of Demon Slayer characters available in versus mode. For those who didn't catch the game's previous trailers, it seems each fighter in the lineup will have their own unique abilities and special moves. Zenitsu, for example, is able to make use of his unique sleep state lightning abilities to bounce foes around the arena. His special is the tenfold technique shown off during his epic confrontation with the spider demon. Meanwhile, Tanjiro makes use of his water-breathing fighting style, using a giant elemental dragon to finish his foes.
Demon Slayer's video game adaption currently doesn't have a release date, although it will be making its way to PC and both current and next-generation consoles. Alongside the action-packed versus mode, players will also be able to wend their way through a separate story mode, which chronicles Tanjiro and Nezuko's adventure during Demon Slayer's first season. Players can expect to fight against plenty of tough demonic threats during the campaign, with the series already introducing plenty of intimidating faces for them to conquer.
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Hinokami Keppuutan is in development for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
