E3 2021 Wish List | Game Rant
E3 is back. After a one-year hiatus, the biggest gaming show is returning, just slightly different than in the past. The standard live E3 is canceled this year, but in its stead is a digital event that will hopefully be able to still provide all of the hype-filled moments, big announcements, and even demos that players will be able to enjoy from home.
The digital E3 event has been confirmed, and many of the big names will be there, including Nintendo, Xbox, and more. The event itself will be quite different, especially without a show floor. Nintendo, for example, often would thrive with its sets at E3 live, so no one knows fully what to expect from Nintendo at E3 this year, beyond simply a Nintendo Direct and a Treehouse Live. The same goes for Xbox or third-party (Sony won't be attending), but there are plenty of things to wish and hope for.
The elephant in the room, and likely the biggest wish across all of E3, may be the announcement of the Nintendo Switch Pro. Of course, a part of the announcement being successful would be the console itself being what fans hope it to be, and Nintendo often does things that are unexpected. But if Nintendo could release a 4K console that is beefy and basically competes with the Xbox Series S (and therefore plays next-gen type games moving forward for the rest of the generation), then fans would be happy.
Something else that many Nintendo fans are hopeful for is anything and everything Metroid. While Mario and Zelda both have had big-time releases on Nintendo's hybrid console, fans of Samus and her space explorations have been waiting eagerly for Metroid Prime 4, which was announced back in 2017 and has been on hiatus since 2019. Even if Metroid Prime 4 is not yet ready, there are Metroid games that could be announced and released on the Nintendo Switch, including HD remasters/remakes Metroid Prime Trilogy and Metroid Samus Returns.
Another giant wish list for E3 2021 for Nintendo is a gameplay trailer and update for the sequel to Breath of the Wild. Many believe that the game will still launch this year or early 2022 at the latest, so something at E3 would make sense. There are plenty of known games that will likely receive updates, but Nintendo has said that it wants to work on more new IP. It would be wonderful to see a new franchise announced.
Nintendo recently unveiled Splatoon 3, one of The Big N's newest franchises. Each generation has seen the addition of a few new big series for Nintendo, like Animal Crossing or Pikmin a few decades ago or Splatoon and Arms more recently. It may be time for something fresh.
For Xbox, the E3 wish list could go anywhere, but much of it revolves around Xbox Game Pass and exclusivity clarification. Thanks to the purchase of Bethesda, moves like snagging MLB The Show 21 and Outriders for Xbox Game Pass, and more, Xbox Game Pass has quickly become an amazing value. The Bethesda deal may be the highlight of E3, though. A gameplay blowout of Starfield, along with many other smaller complements, would be interesting to see.
Xbox has always had Halo as its exclusive, and a huge reveal is to be expected for Halo Infinite, but it is time for Xbox to show off more. Microsoft has made many acquisitions over the past few years, and this year's E3 would be a wonderful opportunity to announce first-party exclusive games under the umbrella of studios such as Bethesda, Obsidian, Compulsion, Double Fine, inXile, and others.
E3 2021 will also have announcements from the likes of Capcom, Koch Media, Take-Two, Ubisoft, Warner Bros. Interactive, and more. Whether it be within a big conference like Xbox's or inside of an announcement of its own, the third-party reveals can be just as big as anything else.
One of the biggest wishes is a return of Bioshock proper at E3. The Bioshock franchise was one of the biggest in its time, But the series was diluted a bit and it deserves an entry that takes it back to its roots. E3 is the perfect place for such an announcement.
Because Take-Two is involved this year, there are countless Rockstar wishes for E3 this year. It should be noted that Rockstar doesn't typically do E3, but an unveiling of remasters/remakes would be high on the list given the unordinary circumstances of the yea. Rockstar takes its time when making each new game, and that is fine. But when it comes to remaking classics, it could use other developers to remake old GTA games, Bully, and more. If the developer revealed a plan to release many games over the next few years from its iconic library of the past, many would be happy.
E3 2021 will take place digitally on June 12-15.
