Epic Games Store Free Games April 2021 Wishlist | Game Rant
Free weekly giveaways on the Epic Games Store are undeniably popular, as titles from tiny independent games to soaring, premium triple-A experiences crop up interchangeably week to week. These games come out every Thursday, with the next week's title revealed alongside each release. Many popular games released free in March, including Creature in the Well, 2014 Game Award winner The Fall, and sci-fi city builder Surviving Mars.
From the above list, it appeared that the free titles on the Epic Games Store were heading in a science fiction direction. Some of April's free titles are already out, and interestingly, the store seems to still be focusing on the release of some amazing science-fiction titles. With the quantity of great sci-fi on its service, the Epic Games Store has a lot of options for what gamers could get free next.
Currently, free on the Epic Games Store is Tales of the Neon Sea, a neon-noir cyberpunk detective thriller. Blending point and click, puzzler, and classic cyberpunk stylings, it makes for a great science fiction game. Following that next week is 3 out of 10: Season 2, a 5-episode season bundle follow up to 3 Out of 10: Season 1. With this in mind, here's a couple of titles that would be interesting to see added later in April or beyond.
A very recent title, Genesis Noir, would be a perfect pick as a free science fiction game. Released on March 26th, this title is developer Feral Cat Den's most recent game. With a focus on breath-taking drawn visuals, original point-and-click mechanics, and a deeply involving story, it would work perfectly to compliment other previously free narrative games like The Fall. It is also a much newer title, with a lot of supplementary content.
It would not be a strange move for a new title to become a free game. 3 Out of 10: Season 2 is debuting as next week's free game in April. In fact, the game's makes the game a good contender for becoming free, as it could onboard a lot of new players to consume future Feral Cat Den products. Overall, the game takes a very interesting approach to a sci-fi game, focusing around a love triangle between several cosmic beings. The player embodies No Man, a clock salesman drawn into the inexorable orbit of jazz singer Miss Mass.
The title oozes an inescapable sense of style, like the gravitational pull of the game's heavenly bodies. A gorgeous tale of jealousy, betrayal, and love so strong it could destroy the universe, Genesis Noir would be a great addition to the Epic Games Store's history of giving away great story-driven games for free. The most beautiful games of 2020 included many independent titles, and Genesis Noir could well make the list for 2021. Furthermore, a free title with such beautiful art and soundtrack would inspire lots of gamers to want to get lost in its world. Thankfully, Genesis Noir has an interactive comic book, a soundtrack, and digital artbook for new players to pick up. As such, it would make an excellent free game in April.
Genesis Noir is a tale of godly romance across the cosmos, shattered by the gunshot of the Big Bang. Likewise, Haven tells the story of two lovers stranded together on a far-off planet. The two need to work together to survive and ideally thrive, which involves the daily activities of cooking, cleaning, and defeating those who would tear them apart. Interestingly, the game uses RPG mechanics and active battle systems that require considerable rhythm. After sitting on the PC, PS5, and Xbox One/Series X, since December 2020, it was released on the Epic Games Store, PS4 and Switch in February. As the game perhaps passed some players without the necessary platforms at initial launch, it would be excellent to see it be released free to a wider audience.
The game also has co-operative elements. Players can drop in and out of local co-op, but Haven can also be a solo experience. A drop-in co-operative game would be a great choice for a free game on the Epic Games Store. On top of that, Haven's developer, The Game Bakers, emphasizes the game's accessibility. This means that gamers with a partner who is less into gaming might benefit massively from this title, and making it free could potentially create two new customers rather than just one.
Cyberpunk games are a hot button topic at the moment. Ghostrunner is one of those hot-button games, but not due to any controversy. Instead, it gained its renown through high octane parkour first person slasher mechanics executed to perfection. Moving at a breakneck pace, the game has players traverse a treacherous tower of a late stage hyper-capitalist dystopia. Mara the Keymaster sits atop it, and the player - the most advanced blade fighter in existence - must topple them. It is certainly different to the other tales of science fiction love that could come free to the Epic Games Store in April.
One of the most polished games of the last year, Ghostrunner delivers flawless gameplay. Moment to moment action has never felt more vibrant, popping colors dancing around the intense swordplay. A mix of Katana Zero, Cyberpunk 2077, and Doom, it flows like few other games on the market. There is also an upcoming content roadmap for Ghostrunner, which would give players a healthy amount of things to do in the coming months after April. With so many cyberpunk games on the store, this standout title could even boost sales of other games like Ghostrunner. Due to this, Ghostrunner seems like a natural free sci-fi title for April.
