Marvel's Avengers: 10 Captain America Skills You Need To Unlock As Soon As Possible
Marvel's Avengers game has been out for about eight months now, and the game has offered players a fair few updates and new challenges to overcome in the time since. The main element that keeps players coming back to the game is the multiplayer mode. The Avengers multiplayer allows players to team up to take on the bad guys as an assembled Avengers team of their own.
Fan-favorite Captain America is, naturally, a playable character in this Avengers title. As fans would expect, he has some impressive skills and powers to offer players. Today, let's take look at the ten powers that players should unlock for Cap as soon as possible.
10 Richochet Throw
Players should unlock this one as soon as possible. Captain America's signature move is being able to throw his shield, bouncing it off several enemies and items in the environment around him before it returns to his hand. It's as iconic in the movies and comics as it is useful in the Avengers game.
This upgrade builds upon the base Shield Throw ability that Captain America starts with. The Richochet Throw allows Cap to mark a trio of enemies while aiming his Shield Throw. This ensures it will bounce off all three before returning to him.
9 Shield Kick
The Shield Kick actually requires the Richochet Throw in order to unlock. While many of the skills on this list should be unlocked as soon as possible, many of them do have prerequisites that the player should keep in mind.
The Shield Kick allows Captain America to extend his Ricochet Throw by kicking his shield back out when it returns to him. This results in damaging and stunning more enemies than the initial Richochet Throw.
8 Resolute Throw
The Resolute Throw is another upgrade to the base Shield Throw skill. With the Resolute Throw, Cap can not only extend his Shield Throw, but also add more momentum and damage to it.
When the shield returns to Cap after being thrown, he catches it and adds to the pre-existing momentum by throwing it harder and back out at his enemies. This allows the player to up their shield-throwing game and makes Cap a ranged-attacking force to be reckoned with.
7 Rebounder
Rebounder is an upgrade to Captain America's Shield Parry ability. While Shield Parry allows Cap to counter close-combat attacks, Rebounder upgrades this default ability so that it can parry projectile attacks as well. Being able to dole out long-range attacks without getting rid of his primary means of defense is an important option for Cap to have.
The caveat is that Rebounder doesn't work on beam attacks, and using it still drains his Shield Block energy. With that in mind, players should still be mindful while using the Rebounder ability.
6 Soldier's Slam
This skill adds an area-of-effect attack to Captain America's repertoire. Players can use the Soldier's Slam effect by making an attack while Captain America is jumping. He then slams into the ground and produces a shockwave that hits all enemies in the vicinity.
Getting surrounded is always dangerous. Giving Cap the opportunity to clear out the enemies that have gathered around him keeps the First Avenger from getting suddenly taken down by overwhelming numbers.
5 Patriot's Throw
This is another ability that upgrades Captain America's Shield Throw skill, and builds on his ability to combo with the Shield Throw. This skill does require unlocking Resolute Throw as a prerequisite, but it's worth it.
After catching Cap's shield a second time during a Shield Throw combo, the Patriot's Throw skill allows Cap to deal out a powerful ranged finisher that doles out heavy damage.
4 Driving Force
Driving Force is an upgrade to Captain America's passive Rally Cry ability, and requires that the good captain is already at Hero Level 5 to be unlocked.
Enemies who have been marked by Captain America's Rally Cry are given a 25% chance to drop Heroic Orbs. These orbs reduce your Avenger's heroic cooldown, making them a very useful item. Heroic Orbs are also generally quite rare, so Driving Force is doubly important to unlock.
3 Enemy Intel
Enemy Intel is another upgrade to the Rally Cry skill and requires that the Driving Force upgrade has already been unlocked. This is a skill with multiplayer in mind, as it relates to other characters in the player's Avengers Strike Team.
Enemy Intel grants a 15% chance improvement for other members of the team to land a Critical Attack on enemies marked by Rally Cry. This makes Cap a very useful support character when the player teams up with other Avengers.
2 CQC Specialist
The CQC Specialist skill is an upgrade to Captain America's Ultimate Heroic Ability, Brooklyn Brawler. The Brooklyn Brawler begins with a shield slam on the ground that stops enemies and refills Cap's intrinsic ability meters. It then grants Cap damage and defense upgrades as well as a unique light attack combo.
The CQC Specialist upgrade adds to this by allowing Cap to perform special takedowns on stunned enemies. This lets Cap quickly dispatch enemies and adds some more visual flare to the combat. CQC Specialist requires Captain America to be at Heroic Level 10 to be unlocked.
1 Commander's Call
Finally, we have the Commander's Call, which is an upgrade of Captain America's heavy attack skill tree. While using his Shield Block, Captain America can trigger a shockwave attack that knocks enemies back while taunting them, making them more inclined to attack Captain America himself.
This seems like a risky maneuver on the surface, but Commander's Call also decreases damage taken by Cap. Additionally, it significantly lowers the amount of energy required to block enemy attacks. That said, using Commander's Call still drains Captain America's intrinsic energy meter.
