Pokemon GO – What Is The May 2021 Research Breakthrough Reward?
April is nearly over and that means it is time for Pokemon GO players to start looking ahead to next month and considering what exciting events, rewards, and other surprises are in store. A big reveal has already dropped with the official announcement of the Luminous Legends X event details, but there are lots of other rotations on the way to keep the day to day gameplay exciting, as well.
As always, the new month will trigger a new Research Breathrough opportunity. That means that players are running out of days to claim April's Research Breakthrough, so be sure to do that one more time if needed. When May arrives, the Pokemon GO research rotation will once again bring another non-Legendary Pokemon encounter with Galarian Ponyta in the spotlight.
Players may not be getting guaranteed Legendary encounters like in the early days of Research Breakthroughs, but Galarian Ponyta is still an incredibly popular choice. The Galarian variant is a fan-favorite and won't be used for PvE Battle Raid metagaming very often, but does have some interesting uses when it comes to the PvP PoGO scene.
From Saturday, May 1, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. to Tuesday, June 1, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. PDT (GMT −7), you’ll encounter Galarian Ponyta in Research Breakthrough encounters.
For those who aren't familiar, in order to claim a Research Breakthrough encounter trainers need to earn stamps by completing seven regular tasks in the mobile AR game. Only one stamp can be earned per day and players do need need to keep up a daily streak, though obviously earning a stamp a day leads to the most Research Breakthroughs possible in any given month.
Trainers should keep an eye out for a significant rotation of the available daily tasks in the game once May 1 arrives, so be sure to keep an eye out for the new list early next month. For now, players can grab tasks by heading out and visiting Pokestops around their community.
Picking up daily tasks has become even less of a chore, since some are automatically assigned each day as part of the social distancing and play-at-home friendly measures that Niantic is taking to keep the game as safe as possible throughout the winter months. Keep in mind that trainers are able to store up some Stamps if they avoid a late April Breakthrough Reward, so it's actually possible to head into May with seven stamps ready to cash in if any trainers really want that Galarian Ponyta encounter as soon as it's available on May 1.
Over the next week or so players should continue to learn a lot more about what other events are helping close out the Season of Legends. Be sure to check back in the near future for more Pokemon GO strategy guides, news, and updates. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!
