The Elder Scrolls Fan Points Out That Earth May Resemble Tamriel Some Day
The Elder Scrolls franchise is well known for the depth of its Tamriel setting, a location players get to explore a bit more of in every new entry. While The Elder Scrolls Online is the most recent game to capture its breadth, fans have been able to see what the fantasy world of Tamriel has to offer for decades. However, it turns out that Tamriel might not always be a fantasy – at least sort of.
Over on Reddit, user Pachacuti pointed out that if Earth as humans know it forms into Novopangea, one of the projections for what the surface of Earth could look like in the far future, it would end up looking a lot like Tamriel. Pachacuti labeled how some of the provinces would translate, with Skyrim, Hammerfell, Elswyr, and all the rest being clearly labeled over Novopangea.
Notably absent are the Summerset Isles, the archipelago from which High Elves hail in The Elder Scrolls lore. The rest of the map is also a bit off, not lining up perfectly with the Tamriel fans have come to know. Still, it's an interesting prospect to consider that the two align so well. Novopangea isn't guaranteed, but it could very well come to fruition depending on Earth's planetary conditions.
Fans compare the scope and scale of video game maps quite a bit, often discussing which games feature the greatest total landmass. The Elder Scrolls' maps are often brought up in the conversation due to the sheer scale they often boast, which has varied greatly over the years. For instance, Daggerfall, the second entry in the series, was roughly the size of Great Britain, which makes it one of the biggest games out there.
Fans can now look forward to The Elder Scrolls 6, though it isn't clear where or when the game will be set. It's been years since fans have learned anything new about the game, with the largest information dump simply being that it's happening. E3 2021 is in a few months, and Bethesda will have its own conference there, so it's possible fans learn more then.
In the meantime, anxious players can look at what the Earth may one day become and admire its resemblance to the fantasy setting. While it's going to be an incredibly long time before it resembles anything like that, it's nonetheless interesting just how much Novopangea looks like Tamriel. Maybe it'll even look like something out of Lord of the Rings millions of years after that.
