Among Us Fan Makes Walking Imposter That Can Stab Things
Although Among Us recently skyrocketed to popularity, many of its players likely remember little robots they could buy from their childhood. These would often be in the shape of a robot t-rex, a cat, or a dog, and they would walk around on their own with little voicelines. Well YouTuber Electo certainly seems to have remembered those toys, as he has created a robotic Impostor that is capable of walking around, has voice lines, and can even stab things occasionally. It's truly an amazing feat, and players are super supportive of what Electo has managed to do.
For those that don't know, Electo frequently creates strange builds like this. Longtime viewers of his channel will likely remember things like his Flourbomb Creeper as testament to his willingness to do some pretty crazy things. He's also been a fan of Among Us for a while, and his viewers knew that this has been in the works for quite some time now.
In principle the build is actually very simple. The body of the Impostor itself was 3D printed in eight different parts, each of which were then assembled afterwards. In order to allow it to walk, Electo used 3D printed treads, and the stabbing mechanism was installed in the body as well. After that, a little bit of coding and some electronics helped this Among Us character come to life. He is able to walk around on his own and will occasionally stab at objects or the air seemingly at random.
The original version that Electo made had a foam knife, but in the video he does eventually affix a real knife to the machine. With this, it is able to cut through paper, pop a water balloon, and even stab a hole into an aluminum can. Electo also made provisions for a Crewmate mode. In this mode, rather than stab at things, the Crewmate simply runs around and crashes into things. He did give it some voicelines, however, including "I saw red vent, wait I'm red" and "Subscribe to Electo."
Electo's final addition to this masterpiece was to create a baby crewmate. In order to get it to follow the bigger one around, Electo attached remote control cars to serve as the feet that follow after a light. Putting the light onto the back of the Impostor should have worked to make the baby follow it around, but in the end Electo had to come up with an ingenious solution instead.
Among Us is available now on Mobile and PC.
