Apex Legends Player Shows Why it May Be Time to Buff Watson with Surprising Video

It may be time to look at Wattson in Apex Legends. The electrifying Static Defender was added back in Season 2 of Apex Legends and has seen various nerfs and buffs since then. But one recent video from a fan seems to illustrate exactly why the Legend needs to be addressed.

One of the biggest things that makes Apex Legends special as a first-person shooter and what sets it apart in the world of battle royales is the Legends themselves and their unique abilities. Each character has their own Passive, Tactical and Ultimate; along with a backstory that helps highlight how those abilities came to be. Respawn Entertainment often tinkers with each character--and the best Legend of each season of Apex Legends often changes. But there have been complaints about the current state of Wattson.

A Reddit user that goes by u/armyjackson recently posted a video on the r/apexlegends subreddit of Octane running through 20 Wattson fences. The fences are designed to both slow down enemies (stun them) and hurt them in terms of damage. However, in the video, Octane survives all 20 fences and does not get stunned at all thanks to a recent Wattson glitch that was introduced in Season 9.

Respawn is working on the fence stun glitch, and that is a part of the issue. But the developer has also made it clear that it is not planning on buffing Wattson at this time. But overall, the issues are frustrating to Wattson players. Between the fences being incredibly weak and currently not stunning properly, Wattson does not feel very viable at the moment; the video illustrates this quite well.

Perfectly balancing all of the Legends is not an easy task, as currently Respawn believes that Lifeline is a bit too powerful, for example. Fans know that Apex Legends went through full seasons in which Wraith was perhaps the most powerful, and others in which Gibraltar was king. Finding that sweet spot is not simple.

Meanwhile, the developers have also mentioned that there will be some Legends that are designed more with fun or creativity in mind than competitive function. Mirage is a character that may never be top tier thanks to his abilities focusing more on bamboozling fun than anything. Wattson joined the cast immediately as a ranked type Legend, however, so her recent woes can be frustrating. The hope is that her glitched fences will be mended as soon as possible. And perhaps Respawn will buff her at some point, as well.

Apex Legends is available on Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
