Destiny 2 Players Aren't Happy With Star-Eater Scales Exotic Change

Destiny 2's developer, Bungie, recently nerfed the new Star-Eater Scales Hunter Exotic. The Scales granted Hunters damage bonuses outside of their Supers, which the studio didn't intend. Its ability to stack with other gear and abilities that grant damage buffs also allowed Hunters to throw out Supers capable of melting boss-level enemies. Bungie feared the damage of the boots so much that it banned them from use during the World's First race for the recently reintroduced Vault of Glass raid.

While players knew Bungie would inevitably weaken the popular Exotic, many don't agree with the nerf the studio eventually settled upon as it doubled the requirements necessary to use the boots. Now, to gain the benefits of the Star-Eater Scales, players have to stack eight Super orbs instead of the originally intended four, seemingly gutting the Exotic's usefulness in PvE rather than balancing them. In response, players have taken to social media to request Bungie adjust the nerf.

One post, in particular, is gaining traction on Reddit. Through it, Destiny fan pdebz created a platform for players to vent their frustration about the Star-Eater Scales nerf, one with potential for Destiny community managers Cozmo and Dmg to see the feedback. While players are fine with the removal of the damage buffs the Exotic accidentally granted to everything other than Supers, they believe the stacking requirements should go back down to the original four orbs, even five or six — not eight.

Dmg and Cozmo have yet to respond to the post, and there's no guarantee that they will — though it's likely if it keeps gaining supporters. The Star-Eater Scales only recently received its nerf, so Bungie is probably studying how the Exotic is currently operating right now in the wild of Destiny 2. It might check community reaction to the nerf after a few days and see posts like pdebz's, where it will then decide whether or not it wants to reevaluate the boots.

Hopefully, Bungie does decide to readjust the Exotic, as its current nerf seems to overstep the real issues it suffered from. In reality, the only thing that Bungie needed to remove from the Exotic was its unintentional buffs to Hunter's basic damage, not the requirements necessary to activate it. While Scales makes Hunter Supers powerful, it is not like it overshadows other boosters in the game like Code of the Missile Titans wielding Cuirass of the Falling Star.

Destiny 2 is on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
