Destiny 2's Fallen Babies Are The New Baby Yoda | Game Rant

Destiny 2's trailer for its newest seasonal content, called the Season of the Splicer, was very enticing. The Season of the Splicer will have a new storyline involving an old ally by the name of Mithrax, a Splicer who seems the only one capable of helping the Guardians and Ikora to make the sun shine again on the Last City. In fact, the Vex collective is the new Season's main threat, and they've emerged from the shadows only to plunge the world into darkness. Even the new Exotic sidearm, the Cryosthesia 77K, was overshadowed and overlooked, be it because of the other things shown in the trailer or because of the new Internet sensation: Fallen babies.

Destiny 2's Season of the Splicer revealed these cute Fallen babies in its trailer, and in no time players and long-time fans were head over heels about them. They are cute, they have four eyes, and they are bundled up in cloth to keep them warm, almost cocoon-like in shape. Many have even joked about abandoning their duties as Guardians to become Fallen baby sitters.

As incredible as it may be, Bungie did tease Destiny 2 players with a "Baby Fallen" sketch from a fan at one, drawn based on the all-popular baby Yoda sipping soup meme. Did Bungie know all along or was this addition to the Season of the Splicer's trailer a little something to melt even the Stasis-frozen hearts of all Guardians to ever exist? Regardless, these baby Fallen are now the new baby Yoda.

To make Guardians love these little aliens even more, they seem to belong to the House of the Light, and as such, they are allied to the Last City and its protectors. They're not just any baby Fallen, they are good baby Fallen. Just like Star Wars and The Mandalorian fans have relentlessly asked for dolls, cookies, gummy bears, t-shirts, action figures, and, more importantly, plushies, Destiny 2 players are seemingly doing the same by spamming Bungie with love messages for the Fallen babies.

Destiny 2's baby Fallen are taking everyone by the storm, just like Star Wars: The Mandalorian did with baby Yoda back in November of 2019. The Mandalorian took advantage of Grogu (aka, "baby Yoda") and Mando's relationship to explore the themes of parenting and fatherhood in the Star Wars universe. Granted, this was not the first time that the Star Wars franchise delved into these topics, especially with the notorious Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker father-son dynamic. Still, The Mandalorian offered a fresh new take on the subject by examining the relationship in its early stages, rather than in adulthood.

What does the introduction of Fallen babies mean for Destiny 2, however? With its focus on the Fallen in Beyond Light, Destiny 2's Season of the Splicer seems to consistently hint at a more permanent alliance with the Fallen, or even the possibility that the Traveler will once again welcome them into its good graces. It's not that farfetched to think that the next chapter of Destiny may make permanent allies here, and that could mean more Fallen babies shenanigans, which everyone seems to be on board with. This remains speculation, unlike the affection that these little fellas have been met with thus far.

Destiny 2's Season of the Splicer is coming on May 11 for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
