Everything You Need to Know About Life is Strange: True Colors' Gabe Chen
The release date for Deck Nine's Life is Strange: True Colors is slowly approaching, and the game has already garnered quite a lot of fans and followers, especially thanks to old characters returning and newly introduced likable ones. Among them, there is Steph, a nerdy, queer young woman, who is one of Alex Chen's potential love interests, and of course, Alex's loving brother, Gabe. Gabe quickly became a fan favorite, and he seems to be a key character in the unfolding of the event of Life is Strange: True Colors.
No Life is Strange game can be considered as such unless there's at least a tiny bit of supernatural powers, and Life is Strange: True Colors steadily holds onto that magical element from its predecessors. The main character, Alex, travels to her big brother's place in Haven Springs to reconnect after eight years apart. However, their newfound well-being is not going to last, as Alex is set to use the powers that allow her to sense people's auras, colored based on their feelings, to solve a murder.
When Alex finally decides to move in with him for a while, Gabe is extremely happy that they can share some time together after the events that made them grow estranged from one another. They shared a traumatic childhood, which ended up with Gabe having trouble with the law and spending time in juvenile detention and Alex in foster care. Despite this, Gabe seems to have moved on from that time in their lives, and he is now enthusiastic about the possibility of introducing Alex to several members of the Haven Springs community, hoping that she eventually settles there, too.
Gabe is caring and loving, and he wants his little sister to have a fresh start in the town True Colors is set in, so that she can forget about how hurting it was to live that past life apart. While Alex seems not to have fully moved on from those years, Gabe looks like he was healed in Haven Springs. He is now a fully functioning adult with a peculiar sense of humor, and he loves to just dance around, laugh, spend time with his loved ones and helping them as best as he can, and just have fun. Gabe healed from his wounds because he wanted to and he needed to, and he transformed all that pain into something good, both for him and those around him.
It is Gabe's intention to be there for the people he cares about, be it family or friends, or even members of his community. While Alex is seemingly a bit introverted by nature, Alex compensates this with his constant smiles and jokes, trying to revive the party even when there isn't one in the first place. Gabe enjoys his life, his surroundings, the town he lives in, and the relationships he cultivated over the years, trying to make up for his past issues while also being a more positive person than he could ever be in his childhood and teenage days.
Unfortunately, though, right when things started to look up and when Gabe was finally getting out of his dark place, tragedy struck. The murder, which at the beginning seems to be more like an accident, that sets the events of the game in motion is Gabe's death. This lovable character was introduced and then immediately killed off, and this goes to show just how much the Life is Strange series makes a point of toying with the fans' feelings. Here's hoping that Gabe will at least have his moments with his long-lost sister before his inevitable demise, and Life is Strange: True Colors is set not to disappoint.
Life is Strange: True Colors launches September 10, 2021, for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
