Killer Instinct Devs Would Consider Making Another One
Killer Instinct released on the Xbox One back in 2013, and received three entire seasons of new characters and post-launch support. However, now news has surfaced of a follow-up to Killer Instinct, leaving fans wondering if the series will return.
The Killer Instinct series started back in 1994 and was founded by Rare Studios, which now continuously updates its open-world pirate game Sea of Thieves. 2013's Killer Instinct brought a revival to the series that built a dedicated community around the game's combo-centric action and diverse cast of characters that has maintained years after the last piece of new content was released for the game.
Now, in an interview with Segment Next, the developer of the second and third season of content for Killer Instinct, Iron Galaxy, has said that they would consider working on another title in the series. The statement comes from the General Manager Shekhar Dhupelia, who says that the studio loved working on Killer Instinct and that it loves to see the continued support of the game that has led to things like Twitch tournaments being organized to try and revive Killer Instinct. Dhupelia even goes on to say that the company still receives messages concerning the game on a daily basis through social media.
Interestingly, news broke recently that Xbox wants a new Killer Instinct title but has had difficulties finding a studio willing to work on it, but it is not clear whether or not it approached Iron Galaxy with the project at all. Iron Galaxy does also have a new title in the works for the Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5, when in recent years the company has kept busy working on Switch ports for games like Diablo 3 and Skyrim. The company says that it will have more news to announce regarding its newest title later this year.
Many fans are hopeful that Killer Instinct will make a return on the Xbox Series X/S, and while there has been no confirmed news, there is certainly still hope. With this summer hosting multiple games industry conferences and big events like E3 and Summer Games Fest, there is hope that fans will get some glimpse at what the future holds for Killer Instinct somewhat soon. If not, maybe there will be more information on Iron Galaxy's next title as part of one of those events as well. If the series does see a return on the new generation of Xbox consoles, it will be very interesting to see just how it takes advantage of the new hardware.
Killer Instinct is available now on PC and Xbox One.
