Lady Dimitrescu and the Other Terrifying Women in the Resident Evil Franchise
The Resident Evil franchise has long been known for its depiction of monsters, whether the monsters are human or infected with some kind of virus or mold. The most recent installment in the Resident Evil series, Resident Evil Village, introduced players to new grotesque monsters in an isolated European village. Despite how terrifying the villains introduced in Resident Evil Village are, they definitely aren’t the only ones that players have come to be afraid of over the years. Resident Evil has a long history of making players face-off against truly horrifying creatures.
Resident Evil has also never shied away from having female protagonists or antagonists. The internet’s most recent obsession, Lady Dimitrescu of Resident Evil Village, is both daunting and beautiful, leading to many memes about players’ interest in her. Though Lady Dimitrescu is the most popular female Resident Evil baddie right now, there are a few other standout terrifying women found throughout the Resident Evil franchise. Each one has their own unique aspects that make them disgusting, terrifying, and exciting in their own way.
It would be remiss to not mention the woman the internet has dubbed “tall, hot vampire lady” as an absolutely terrifying woman in Resident Evil. She functions as Resident Evil Village’s Mr. X, and players can try to fight her within her castle, but it won’t do anything. Lady Dimitrescu is powerful, towering over Ethan and inflicting damage with her razor-sharp claws. It’s not until her boss battle that players can even think about hurting her. Despite how beautiful Lady Dimitrescu is, her final form is… not. In fact, she could probably be distantly related to Stranger Things’ Demogorgon. However, that just makes her all the more daunting to fight.
The entire color palette of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is dingy and creepy, and those two words also describe Marguerite Baker very well. The first to be infected by Eveline, Marguerite was the wife of Jack Baker and quite the force to be reckoned with. While she wasn’t always as vicious as she turned out to be, being under the control of Eveline proved to warp her mind as much as it did physically. The boss fight with Marguerite showcased her powers, including elongated legs to mimic the bugs she could create and control. It was disgusting, terrifying, and an experience players don’t forget.
Marguerite Baker wasn’t the first time Resident Evil had a monster modeled around bugs. Introduced in Resident Evil—CODE: Veronica, Alexia Ashford was a terrifying woman both physically and mentally. She was evil from the start, wanting to take over the world so much that she injected herself with the t-Veronica virus to become stronger than everyone else. Her boss fight in Resident Evil—CODE: Veronica saw her transform into a humanoid monster that could throw fire, but her boss form in Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles was much more unsettling and bug-like.
While Miranda, known to the village as Mother Miranda, is the final boss of Resident Evil Village, she technically didn’t start out as an evil person. Her story shows what grief can do to someone and the lengths they’ll go to change what happened. Being the mastermind behind everything that happens to Ethan in the village, Miranda definitely qualifies as a terrifying Resident Evil woman. The different forms she takes on when fighting Ethan also reiterate the fact that she’s scary, angry, and absolutely terrifying.
Eveline may have been bred in a lab for biological warfare and just a kid, but she was another terrifying boss of the Resident Evil franchise. She existed right under players’ noses, secretly being the grandma who lurked around corners in the Baker home. Her powers of mind control were incredibly difficult to fight, yet as terrifying as she was there was a bit of sadness to defeating her. After all, she technically was just a child searching for a family—she just went about it in the worst way possible.
The Resident Evil franchise is largely survival horror games, meaning players must fight to survive their encounters with the terrifying women of each game. Whether it’s their physical form or motivation that makes them terrifying monsters, any encounter with these women will be something players don’t soon forget.
Resident Evil Village is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
