NVIDIA DLSS Causing Call of Duty: Warzone Aiming Issues
Both casual and competitive players in first-person shooters know that frames per second (FPS) is important to consistent gameplay. With Call of Duty: Warzone offering a wide range of settings, players can help tune their FPS to fit their individual situations for better performance. Recently, Call of Duty: Warzone received an update allowing Nvidia DLSS to optimize the game's graphics, but some are reporting a major drawback to this feature.
Nvidia DLSS is a unique system that uses sampling to upscale graphics in real-time. This allows lower resolution images to be enhanced for modern computer monitors. Call of Duty: Warzone only recently made the DLSS option available, but despite advertising a higher FPS rate, the game is apparently seeing a unique side effect.
In a video by JGOD, the Call of Duty: Warzone YouTuber demonstrates that DLSS settings can cause Warzone to misalign crosshairs. This can cause weapon optics to be inaccurate and may reduce the accuracy of every weapon through a visual issue. While the DLSS does increase FPS rates by interpolating visual data instantly, the system seems to be having issues guessing what Call of Duty Optics should line up to be. This results in a misalignment which causes shots to land slightly left or right of the crosshairs.
While the issue applies to almost all optics, the tac laser continues to be an accurate representation of where bullets will go. Call of Duty: Warzone loadouts frequently use the tac laser as a hip-fire accuracy increasing tool, but with DLSS enabled it is more accurate than most sights.
Players will get a higher FPS rate out of DLSS, but until Raven Software finds a solution, players could find their optics inaccurate. A simple adjustment would be to practice with the difference, as players can manually compensate their aiming by understanding where the bullets will go. Call of Duty: Warzone snipers make these adjustments for long-range shots inherently, but the same skill could be applied to DLSS users.
Currently, developers appear to be unaware of this issue, but JGOD hopes to spread the message. Call of Duty: Warzone's Trello board continues to track multiple problems, and until a fix is made, players may want to disable their DLSS settings. A small sacrifice in FPS rates could be justifiable for more accuracy in optic sights.
Call of Duty: Warzone is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
