Overwatch 2 Developer PvP Livestream Will Answer Community Questions

After it was announced at BlizzCon 2019, Blizzard was relatively quiet about Overwatch 2 and the plans it had to freshen up the competitive hero-shooter besides adding PvE. The silence was broken at BlizzConline 2020 when the game's developers offered the first true in-depth breakdown about PvE, new heroes, balance changes, and more that are in the works. It will continue with an upcoming developer deep dive on Overwatch 2, and Blizzard wants the community to drive the conversation this time around.

Narratively, Overwatch 2 picks up shortly after the series of cinematic trailers Blizzard released online with the organization reuniting publicly as new crises emerge around the world. The game's overall focus will remain on competitive PvP, which remains the franchise's backbone with fans and in the esports scene. However, there will be a greater focus on PvE with story-driven missions and hero missions akin to the PvE seasonal events and modes in Overwatch. Blizzard also confirmed four new heroes will be added to the game, the first of which was revealed to be Sojourn.

All these topics and more will be on the table as part of the community-driven developer deep dive livestream planned for May 20. Blizzard took to Twitter to start driving the conversation, asking for questions from the community about Overwatch 2. While they are not promising to answer every question, they want the community to tell them what they are "burning" to know about the new game. The community took to this call quickly, posting hundreds of comments varying from jokes to legitimate questions about the game.

While Blizzard is giving the community the chance to drive the conversation this time, the studio will likely be cautious with what questions they answer on the deep dive livestream. One such topic Blizzard may try to avoid is Overwatch 2's potential release date, though this is normal given Blizzard's history. The studio is normally coy about release dates, opting instead to withhold that information until the game is far enough along a release window can be set in stone.

On the other hand, Blizzard may decide to give fans a fresh look at Sojourn and, potentially, one of the three planned new heroes. The Canadian hero is rumored to be the newest DPS/attacker character, fitting in alongside heroes like Reaper and Soldier:76, though Blizzard has not confirmed this. That said, four new heroes would likely mean one new hero for each class within the already diverse roster of characters. If Blizzard confirms Sojourn is the newest attack hero, fans could be treated with the newest defense hero who may be able to shut her down.

Overwatch 2 does not have a release date yet but is expected to release on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
