Steam Might Be Getting a Great Quality of Life Feature Soon
When it comes to PC gaming, just about every player has either heard of or uses Steam in some fashion. It's one of the leading game marketplaces and arguably one of the best game managers for the PC. That doesn't mean that it can't improve, and with some recent rumors and data mining, it looks like that could be happening sooner rather than later.
With this week bringing other rumors concerning Valve and Steam, this one could have snuck by without people noticing. However, this wasn't the case, and if the data mining is true, then it means good things for Steam users.
Posting on Twitter, @thexpaw uploaded a couple of images that were posted in the Steamdb Discord Server. The images show a library manager for Steam users. The manager gives clear information on what's installed on a drive (or, in the case of Steam, a library), how much space is being utilized by what, and how much room is currently free. The manager also provided how much room each item was taking up. After posting, @thexpaw gave credit to @sno_wolf for finding the information.
With the current setup of the game library in Steam, this could provide some vital information for users when making decisions about where to install items or what can be removed for the time being. Steam users will have more information before actively installing software and will see what games are hogging up space.
While Steam is widely used, it doesn't mean that it can't be upgraded. With a quality of life feature like this library manager, players would have greater control of their storage space. This could be especially advantageous for gamers with multiple libraries across multiple drives. Following information that Valve could be developing a Switch-like portable Steam player, an upgraded version of Steam could be just the thing to support that rumor, or at the very least appease the current player base.
For Steam users, the good news keeps on coming, as the software's core has remained relatively unchanged for years, with some adjustments for Steam users every so often. A small change like this would be praised by players everywhere and would go a long way to continue making Steam the game manager of choice for the PC gamer. There's been no official announcement surrounding these upgrades, so users will have to keep their eyes open for when they are either announced or added to the Steam client in a later update.
