Valkyrae Denies That She's Going to Quit Streaming | Game Rant
Rachel "Valkyrae" Hofstetter is clarifying her past comments, and denies recent accusations that she will be "quitting" streaming. The popular YouTube streamer and gaming personality took to social media to elaborate on a few things she said during one of her recent streams.
Last week, Valkyrae made several comments during a livestream that hinted she may quit YouTube and social media altogether, shocking fans. Valkyrae cited "trolls, hate, and creepiness," according to Dexerto, but based off more recent comments, it may not actually be the case.
On May 3, Valkyrae took to her secondary Twitter account to clarify her comments, revealing she won't be quitting after all. The initial tweet reacted to recent news headlines, asking why there were multiple articles about her quitting. A secondary tweet gives fuller context to the situation, with Valkyrae explaining her previous comment planning to "pivot out of streaming" in favor of off-camera business and financial investing. The world's top female streamer says she didn't mean getting out of streaming "entirely," and says as long as video games exist and she has friends to play them with, she'll always get online.
This should come as a relief not only to her fans, but also to business partners. Valkyrae and CouRageJD were recently named co-owners of 100 Thieves, making her one of the only women to own an esports team. The organization and lifestyle brand is also co-owned by music executive Scooter Braun, Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert, founder Matthew Haag, and rapper Drake. While specific details of her role within the organization remain unclear, Valkyrae will receive equity in 100 Thieves, which is estimated to be valued at $190 million.
In addition to the "quitting" rumors, playing Among Us on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, and being named a co-owner of 100 Thieves, Valkyrae also moved out of Pokimane's house. While the two streamers remain friends, Valkyrae says the move is brought on for two reasons. The first is her desire to "have full control" over her living space, as only living alone can truly facilitate. The second is stalkers who found her and Pokimane's address, causing both streamers to find a new place for safety reasons.
While it is unfortunate that trolling and creepy viewers have pushed the most popular female streamer to consider quitting the business altogether, it should be noted that the same social media can also be a force for good. Earlier this year Twitter helped Valkyrae deal with a stalker who had been plaguing her for months, showing that social media has the capacity to make a positive impact.
