10 Things You Didn't Know You Could Do In Chivalry 2 | Game Rant
Chivalry 2 is an amazingly fun chaotic game by design, that much is obvious, but it’s also pretty mechanically deep. Sure, new players can still do well by just swinging back and forth until they catch someone off guard, but those that learn and use all of the combat mechanics are the ones who usually top the leaderboards.
That said, it’s more than just combat. This game is chock-full of little gimmicks, features, and mechanics most players slowly discover over the course of many battles. So, let’s go over some of the all-time best examples.
10 Talk Using A Chicken, Throw It, Or Light People On Fire With It
There are a ton of different items players can pick up and use in Chivalry 2 such as human limbs, fish, candelabra's, or even rocks. But many players haven't figured out that they can also grab the live chickens that pop up on each map.
While holding a chicken, their character’s voice lines are all changed to “Buck OCK”, which is a humorous little touch. Chickens (and the turkey legs) just so happen to pretty viable as weapons too. When players hold them over a fire, they light up, and then can be thrown or jabbed at an enemy to spread that fire.
9 Throw An Enemy’s Head
One of the most notable aspects of Chivalry 2 is the absurd gore seen and heard in combat. Most deaths can be pretty gruesome. Well, something that makes the game stand out from its contemporaries is being able to throw enemy heads. Players can use an overhead strike, then pick up their heads and use it as a throwable weapon. Having a part of your avatar thrown at you would certainly stand as a memorable experience.
8 Slap People Across The Face
Not many players know that the unarmed jab animation is a dramatic slap across the face. Sure, throwing heads, chickens, or even bread at other players is funny, but this slap feels different. Of course, to pull this off, players have to go into combat with just their hands "equipped", which doesn’t allow for blocking. So, only the best of the best can slap an enemy and come out of it as the victor.
7 Use Banners To Avoid Or Block Projectiles
With how rarely these banners get destroyed during battle, it might seem like most of the player base can't even see these things, but they're useful in more ways than one. Banners are a placable item that is part of the Guardian’s toolkit (the best Knight class), and they heal nearby allies over time. Just a couple of these can turn the tide of battle quite easily.
But, players might not know that they can also use these banners as shields for projectiles. Since they can be destroyed, banners have health bars, which means any "projectile" that hits the banner won't pass through, making them great in a pinch for when the archers really start working together.
6 Chuck A Weapon Into Someone & Pull It Right Back
This next one is a ton of fun to do, but it's obviously pretty risky. One of the most common load screen tips that pops up in Chivalry 2 talks about how throwing weapons is the best way to punish an enemy who tries to run in the middle of a fight, and that’s absolutely true.
But what if a player chucks their primary weapon into a fleeing enemy, and they don’t die? Well, they can actually just run up to them and snatch the weapon right out of their body while they’re still alive. Most Chivalry 2 players assumed at first that weapons could only be snatched from corpses, but it works for the living as well.
5 Double Up On Arrows To Use
Moving onto archers, often the most difficult to deal with class in games like these. To be fair, it’s easy to play an archer in Chivalry 2 or any other similar game. Additionally, out of all the classes in the game, they're the only ranged one, so of course, they'll be targeted before they run out of ammo.
Essentially, if a player wants to double up on ammo they just have to fire all their current ammo into the closest piece of terrain made of wood, dirt, or any other material the arrows would understandably get stuck in (so no stone). These "lodged" arrows last for about a minute and a half before despawning, so if the archer goes and grabs some nearby ammo, then comes back to the "lodged" ones, they can essentially use double the number of arrows as long as they burn through them quickly.
4 Get Launched From A Trebuchet
Not every level has a trebuchet section in it, but the ones that do are a lot of fun. Trebuchet's launch rocks that insta-kill any players in the blast radius, though players are completely exposed while using them. That said, players likely aren’t aware that they can also be launched from trebuchets, right to the objective if it’s aimed correctly. Of course, they’ll have to deal with the falling animation once they land, and if they get launched with a rock it’ll almost assuredly kill them on impact. Still, nothing says dedication to the cause like getting launched at a castle at lethal speeds for the sake of the crusade.
3 Use Braziers Or Field Engineer Walls To Climb
If there’s one thing new archer players might not expect that they’ll need to know, it’s figuring out what areas of each map they won’t get flanked/snuck up on. As was stated previously, archers are almost constantly targeted by enemy players, meaning they need to set up in a safe spot or find a bodyguard.
A good way to stay out of reach, however, is to actually use the placeable braziers or shields the longbowman and crossbowman have as platforms to get on top of buildings or higher areas of the map. And, this isn’t exclusive to archers either, since anyone can hop on top of these things. Of course, the enemy can use them too, but not if another teammate destroys them after they’ve served their purpose.
2 Play The Harp
If there’s one thing that Mordhau inarguably does better than Chivalry, it’s giving players the ability to run around with a lute on the map playing music while their allies fight to the death. Well, Chivalry 2 still doesn’t have lutes, but it has some other options.
In the Coxwell map, in the town market where players will be either defending or attempting to steal the town's gold, there are a variety of stands. Players can pick up tankards to throw at enemies here, as well as candelabra’s, knives, and a variety of other things. One of those other things they can find is a harp and a flute, which are both able to be played using the warcry input while walking around.
1 Restock On Bandages & Heal With Found Food
And lastly, let’s cover one last tip that is likely already known by a good portion of the player base, but not all of them. All over every map are these little “resupply” chests that are always marked with icons. Players can interact with these to get more arrows, more throwing weapons, and most importantly, more bandages. This is likely how people are managing to get 30+ kills and only a couple of deaths in one game, as they use these restock locations to top themselves off anytime a battle gets too dicey.
But, if the resupply is too far away, players can also heal by finding a variety of food items depending on the map. Some of them have wells players can grab fish from, some have turkey legs, while others have plates full of bread. To heal with these, grab them then press the warcry input, and that should top that health bar right up.
