8 Hilarious Black Widow Memes That Prove The MCU Makes No Sense
There might be a lot of heroes in the MCU these days, but fans still have plenty of love for the first six. The original Avengers team are the ones who built the franchise into the juggernaut it is today. And amongst that team was a skilled, clever, and fearsome agent named Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow.
Initially, she didn't get solo adventures like the others, nor was she always important in the movies where she did feature. However, she has still cultivated a giant fanbase over the years. Many of them have shown their support through memes, specifically ones that poke fun at certain gaps in MCU logic. Here are some of the funniest examples.
8 The Soul Stone Spells The End For Black Widow
Black Widow's death in Avengers: Endgame was a little sudden. Going into the movie, fans felt that it could be the swan song for Iron Man and Captain America. After all, the two male heroes had already had a trilogy of solo movies.
However, with her first solo movie coming up, not many were prepared to see Romanoff perish. Yet, as this meme points out, someone had to take the fall to retrieve the Soul Stone, and Marvel chose Widow. To add insult to injury, it was in the middle of the movie.
7 Interesting Choice Of Weapon
While the MCU is filled with strong villains, none are more mighty than Thanos when he possessed several Infinity Stones. When the Titan arrived in Wakanda to grab the last one, he had to go through a bunch of heroes. Captain America tried using his shield, Bruce Banner utilized the Hulkbuster armor, and War Machine attacked the villain with multiple ballistic weapons. None of them managed to hurt Thanos, but at least their efforts made sense.
Black Widow, on the other hand, had the crazy idea of charging the monster with a taser in hand. She didn't make it to him, yet even if she did, the Titan wouldn't have even felt the tiny electric shock. The maker of this meme has poked fun at Romanoff's attempt.
6 Not Dressed For Battle
Even though she admirably holds her own during many movies, it's clear that Black Widow isn't as strong as most of her teammates. In comparison to the likes of Captain Marvel and Scarlett Witch, Romanoff's lack of power is understandable as she doesn't have superpowers. Although, the spy could be on a similar level to Iron Man, Falcon, and War Machine if she just had the right equipment.
Widow usually turns up to fights in a skin-tight bodysuit, which is probably handy for infiltration, but it's not really battle attire, as this meme points out. She probably should've asked Tony Stark to make her an armored suit of some kind, yet Romanoff likely loathes asking the billionaire for help.
5 Nebula Could've Warned Them
Before the scene on Vormir, many fans probably had forgotten that someone needed to die to retrieve the Soul Stone. Most of the heroes didn't even know about the need for a sacrifice.
Nebula, however, was aware of the difficult situation and never mentioned it. Why did she decide to keep a very vital piece of information quiet? Perhaps she felt it would lead to arguments within the group about who should go. Whatever her reason, the great supporting character's thoughts while planning the time heist are depicted in this meme.
4 Forgetting About Sam
During Civil War, Captain America had to take a break from discussing the Sokovia Accords as the love of his life, Peggy, died. Rodgers attended her funeral alongside Sam. Afterward, Romanoff arrived and talked to Steve about the Accords again. Captain America stayed firm in rejecting them, which didn't surprise Widow. In fact, she wasn't there to convince him; she came because she didn't want him to be alone.
Romanoff clearly didn't realize that Sam was there for him during the funeral itself. To make matters worse, Steve didn't even correct her and mention Sam - he just went along with it. Falcon deserves much more respect than the two original Avengers gave him during that scene. Thankfully, this meme shines a light on the injustice.
3 Black Widow's Sandwich Treated Better Than Captain Marvel
Eyebrows were raised when Marvel announced that Captain Marvel was going to be the first female-led MCU movie. It was nothing against the character - it's just that Black Widow had been a part of the franchise for much longer. Although, the movie worked as a way to introduce the heroine before her inclusion in Endgame. Yet, Captain Marvel ended up not being in the team-up flick all that much.
Her role was basically a glorified cameo, and as this meme points out, Romanoff's sandwich got a similar amount of screentime. After the time-skip, the snack was seen and mentioned multiple times. On the other hand, one of the strongest heroes in the MCU wasn't really around during that portion of the adventure.
2 Not All Sacrifices Are Equal
Avengers: Endgame is among the best movies in the MCU. However, one aspect of it that fans weren't fond of was the treatment of Black Widow. Even though she sacrificed herself to get the Soul Stone and resurrect half of the universe, not many of her friends talked about it.
They all shared a sad moment right after she perished, but once Tony died, he became the main topic of discussion. All of the heroes had a big funeral for the billionaire, and Spider-Man spent the next movie trying to get over his passing. The maker of this meme has tried to predict how Romanoff would feel about the situation.
1 The Long Wait For Release
The end of the Infinity Saga left a hole in the heart of every MCU fan. But luckily, there was already a bunch of new Marvel films and shows on the horizon. The Black Widow movie was one of the most anticipated as Natasha Romanoff was finally getting her solo adventure. Yet, due to outside forces, the action flick has constantly been getting delayed.
Marvel's new Disney+ shows haven't had the same issue, though. Wandavision, Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and Loki have all come out before Black Widow. This meme uses a classic MCU scene to visualize Marvel's current release process.
