Abandoned Dev Releases Video Squashing Silent Hill Rumors
For weeks now, speculation surrounding the upcoming cinematic survival horror simulator Abandoned has slowly reached a fever pitch. Players have been insanely skeptical as to the true origins of the game, with the main rumor being that the PS5 exclusive is a secret Kojima Silent Hill project. While BlueBox has done what it could to refute these rumors, few have taken heed. That has all come to a screeching halt now, as BlueBox Game Studios Game Director Hasan Kahraman released a video squashing the rumors.
Part of what initially fueled the rumors of Abandoned being the new Silent Hill is the fact that BlueBox Game Studios is a small indie game company with little to no public history. While that's not unusual, avid followers of Kojima know that the video game auteur is quite devious in how he reveals his projects, utilizing decoy companies and titles. With the recent series of Twitter posts by BlueBox Game Studios and tons of coincidences found by Redditors, the potential for a Silent Hill reveal was hard for many to ignore.
Late Monday, a tweet from the official BlueBox Game Studios account was accompanied by a short video message from Hasan Kahraman. After a brief introduction, Kahraman made it clear that he's not associated with Kojima, not an actor for hire, and not working on Silent Hill. Instead, he sought only to show his face, allowing people to see that he is a real, living person.
Towards the end of the video, Kahraman expressed a desire to hold a Q&A wherein more information about Abandoned would be revealed, though an exact date isn't known. BlueBox Game Studios has been quite consistent in refuting these rumors, although this time marks the first time Kahraman has come out and said it himself.
It would seem that this is the final nail in the coffin for Silent Hill fans holding out for a surprise reveal. It's really tough to ignore some of the crazier coincidences, such as Kahraman sharing the same initials as Kojima, or even the BlueBox tweet hinting at a new title reveal that starts with an "S" and ends with an "L". However, now that fans have a name and a face, any hopes of Kojima's involvement can finally be put to rest.
On the other hand, this final boost in the spotlight comes only three days before the Abandoned gameplay reveal. Even if it isn't a Silent Hill IP, it still has the potential to be one that fans remember for years to come.
Abandoned is slated to launch in 2021 for PS5 and PC.
