Cosplayer Teases Silk Entering 'Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse' Sequel
Spider-Man is the world most popular superhero, but whatever responsibility comes with such great power is no obstacle for reinvention as Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse proved animation could do wonders for Miles Morales. However, with another animated sequel on the horizon, some fans might wonder which other female web-swinger could be joining Gwen Stacy and one of those is Silk.
While the movie has already cast its Spider-Woman, Silk represents a much more recent creation from Marvel Comics whose origins and personality dramatically differ from those of Jessica Drew. See, in 2014 when Dan Slott and Humberto Ramos decided that the radioactive spider that bit Peter Parker would also go for the young Korean American Cindy Moon, they opted to give Silk an incredibly cool-looking costume that is the stuff of dreams for cosplayers.
Enter Belarussian cosplayer Veronika Larchenko, who goes by the name Lady Integra, and has taken the best from Silk’s iconic costume for an incredibly realistic look that would certainly be an eye-turner for good old Spidey. Unlike Mary Jane, Gwen Stacy, Felicia Hardy, and the rest of Spider-Man’s girlfriends, Silk is the only one with whom Parker shares an inexplicable attraction due to their shared origins and having exactly the same powers, albeit for the weaker Silk boasting greater agility and an even more fine-tuned Spider-Sense.
As for Lady Integra’s masterful cosplay, the self-described costume maker and photographer opted for a pre-bought model (jet black hair not included) that serves as a great template in case Sony ever decides to bring Silk to life whether it’d be in live-action or animated form, with her red mask really popping from the rest of her slick costume.
Although Silk was fantastically received by fans since her inception to Marvel Comics’ Spider-Verse in large part due to sharing almost the exact same powers as Peter Parker, the nature of their pheromone-fueled sexual attraction became a bit controversial, with Slott recently regretting taking that particular route with the character. Regardless of that, Silk has proven to be charming enough for Sony to be developing her own spin-off.
Silk also has not found the same type of video game recognition as some of the other women in the Spider-Verse, but that could soon change if Spider-Man 2 gives Cindy Moon her big break as a mainstream spider girl on the PS5, beyond the small cameos she's gotten in Homecoming and Avengers: Infinity War.
