Destiny 2 Streamer Leopard Completes Flawless Vault of Glass Run on Sparrow
The latest raid added to Destiny 2, Vault of Glass, has been a big hit among fans of Bungie's first person MMO. A reimagining of the original Destiny's first raid, Vault of Glass has managed to give players a healthy dose of nostalgia, while also proving a formidable challenge for veterans of the series. However, Destiny 2 streamer Leopard has managed to complete a flawless run of the raid by hovering through it on a Sparrow.
In order for a run to be considered flawless in Destiny 2, players have to complete the raid without a single member of their team dying. Completing this under normal circumstances would be a challenge, but doing it while driving a Sparrow meant Leopard had to make some fairly large adjustments to his play. The idea for the run was concocted during Leopard's charity block on June 14th, where money earned during the block went to GCX, benefitting St Jude Children's Research Hospital.
While the usual challenge of a raid in Destiny 2 comes from the enemies and bosses you have to tackle throughout, for Leopard, much of the difficulty came in the form of traversing the terrain. When driving through the Vault of Glass raid on a Sparrow, it becomes fairly apparent that it was designed for progression on foot, as gigantic cavernous drops and difficult platforming become massive hazards for the vehicle. At one point, Leopard had to launch from a high platform, fall a huge distance, and rebound off a rock below in order to progress to the next part of the area.
Moments like this were consistently hair-raising throughout the run, with tense jumps to thin outcrops and slow crawls across precipices a necessary part of the journey. The run was originally attempted during Leopard's Destiny 2 charity block for GCX, but didn't end up being completed due to donation incentives during the stream to sabotage the run. After a few more attempts after the charity stream had ended, Leopard managed to get a flawless run down, with his teammates shouldering the combat in order for him to make it to the end unscathed.
Perhaps the credit should go to Leopard's team, AntarcticWildlife, Strix, DoctorDRM, Panda, and Rhetrical, who managed to handle Destiny 2's latest raid without a full team. Having said that, there is something to be said for the impressive control that Leopard showed while making some of the trickier jumps, with some of them being entirely blind leaps of faith, and others requiring a good amount of precision to pull off. At the end of the day, the run managed to raise a bunch of money for St Jude's, even if a lot of that money was donated in order to stop the run from making it to the end.
Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
