God of War: Ragnarok Gameplay Reveal Happening at Sony Event, Says Leaker
Rumors have been swirling that Sony is going to host its E3-equivalent PlayStation State of Play presentation soon. Sony itself has not officially announced any such event, and so fans should keep their expectations in check, but the rumors and "leaks" keep on rolling in. The latest points to the PlayStation State of Play event featuring the very first gameplay footage of the God of War sequel, rumored to be releasing under the title God of War: Ragnarok (an official title has not been announced at the time of this writing).
This information comes from Shpeshal_Nick, who is best known for accurately leaking Xbox news. However, Shpeshal_Nick has been leaking PlayStation news lately, seemingly outing the existence of a Ghost of Tsushima standalone expansion called Ghost of Ikishima, which has since been backed up by other insiders. Shpeshal_Nick's latest claim is that the Sony event will feature the first gameplay of the new God of War and that it will "be exciting to see," but further details are unavailable beyond that.
It must be reiterated that Sony has not actually announced the rumored State of Play presentation, and so fans should take all of this information with a grain of salt. That being said, leaks and rumors have suggested that the State of Play will happen on Thursday, July 8, and that it will feature more than just God of War: Ragnarok and the Ghost of Ikishima game.
Besides those two titles, another game rumored for the supposed Sony event is Death Stranding: Director's Cut. Death Stranding: Director's Cut was announced at Summer Game Fest, and was quickly followed with a promise by Geoff Keighley that fans would find out more in the coming weeks. July 8 certainly fits that timeframe, and so some fans have connected the dots and believe that Death Stranding: Director's Cut will be one of the titles showcased at the State of Play.
It's also been teased that the PlayStation State of Play will have a "big surprise" of some kind, which apparently hasn't been spoiled yet. Since the big surprise is evidently not the God of War: Ragnarok gameplay or Ghost of Ikishima, it's anyone's guess as to what it could be. As it stands, it seems fans will have to wait for the actual State of Play to take place before they'll really know.
Again, fans should take all of this information with a grain of salt for now. While Shpeshal_Nick has proven themselves to be a reliable leaker in the past, it's always possible that this information is outdated or incorrect. Evidence does point in the direction of a PlayStation State of Play happening soon, though, so hopefully fans will find out more before too long.
God of War: Ragnarok is in development for PS4 and PS5.
