Griftlands: The Best Rare Negotiation Grafts | Game Rant
Increasingly common in newer turn-based RPGs are combat systems revolving around non-violent confrontation, such as debating and similar kinds of discussions. An excellently implemented example of this can be found in the sci-fi RPG Griftlands, by Canadian indie developer Klei Entertainment, as it contains a kind of verbal combat known as "Negotiations".
Players can enhance their speaking skills in a number of ways, and the best passive manner to do so is to install Negotiation Grafts that grant mostly positive effects while in a heated debate. Those of the Rare variety come with some of the best effects and should be sought by players looking for a way to increase their Diplomacy or Hostility. The top 3 in this category are the ones with the greatest usability and versatility, so be sure to keep an eye out for them in one's next run of Sal's part of the story.
3 Mind Spool
Effect Of The Mind Spool Negotiation Graft
- Draw 3 extra cards at the start of your turn, and then, at the end of your turn, take 1 damage for every card in your hand above 3
Upgraded Version Of The Mind Spool Negotiation Graft - Visionary Mind Spool
- Draw 4 extra cards at the start of your turn, and then, at the end of your turn, take 1 damage for every card in your hand above 3
Why The Mind Spool Negotiation Graft Is So Good
Despite forcing Sal to either gain composure or take varying amounts of damage if one is wasteful of drawn negotiation cards, the power to automatically pull more cards is one that can always be abused in a card game. More cards in the player's hand mean more options, including ways to gain actions and make use of one's well-stocked hand.
Ideally, those who install the Mind Spool Negotiation Graft will want to fill their negotiation decks with cards that cost nothing to play as well as those that can have their action cost reduced in some way. This allows players to make the most of each free-to-play card more times than usual, and end turns with the least amount of cards possible to avoid taking damage. Furthermore, players can even combine these tactics with those that activate upon shuffling one's deck when no more cards can be drawn while it is empty. Layering these strategies on top of one another grants some potential to become one of the most dominant negotiators in Havaria.
2 Brain Spur
Effect Of The Brain Spur Negotiation Graft
- Your first card played every turn also damages an additional random enemy argument
Upgraded Version Of The Brain Spur Negotiation Graft - Wide Brain Spur
- Your first card played every turn also damages an additional 2 random enemy arguments
Why The Brain Spur Negotiation Graft Is So Good
This is a great Negotiation Graft for those who want to deal a lot of damage at the beginning of every turn. The Brain Spur essentially lets one deal twice the potential damage to the enemy with the first offensive card played each turn, which, when combined with high-cost cards with high single-hit damage can absolutely shut down most foes unless they are turtled behind walls of composure.
With the Brain Spur installed, players with aggressive decks of either Diplomacy or Hostility builds can maximize their damage output with a shotgun approach to Negotiations. When it gets upgraded to the Wide Brain Spur, it becomes straight-up overpowered and can let Sal cleave through opposing arguments like a hot metaphorical knife through speech-bubble butter. This is especially due to the fact that all overspill damage from destroyed arguments gets redirected to the enemy's core argument.
1 Pons Mite
Effect Of The Pons Mite Negotiation Graft
- Increase the maximum damage of all cards by 1
Upgraded Version Of The Pons Mite Negotiation Graft - Boosted Pons Mite
- Increase the maximum damage of all cards by 2
Why The Pons Mite Negotiation Graft Is So Good
Passively increasing one's maximum damage is often the goal of many builds, and usually requires multiple cards to be accomplished, however, the Pons Mite grants this great boon automatically throughout all Negotiations. This is useful for any kind of offensive build, regardless if one is heading down the path of Diplomacy or that of Hostility. However, this effect can be capitalized a bit differently depending on the player's preferences.
For Diplomacy builds, increasing the max damage of every offensive card is devastating thanks to the fact that acquiring just a single stack of Influence will make all Diplomacy cards deal max damage, optimizing the player's potential power beautifully. As for Hostility builds, which often rely on Dominance to increase the max damage of cards, they can benefit from the Pons Mite's effect by simply combining it with one's natural Dominance-related tactics for some ridiculous buffs to Hostility cards that have a chance to deal more damage than any Diplomacy card.
