No More Heroes 1 and 2 Gets PC Release Date | Game Rant
The adventures of Travis Touchdown have been chronicled in the No More Heroes franchise since the first game was released in 2007, with a following sequel in 2010, both on the Wii console. The series had remained dormant until 2019's Travis Strikes Again, set in-between No More Heroes 2 and 3, the latter is due to release sometime this year.
While Travis Strikes Again was released for PC, fans who wondered if the first two games would receive the same PC release would have their answer in December, as the ESRB had rated both games for a potential PC release sometime in 2021. While neither developer nor publisher had confirmed a PC release date up until recently, a surprise announcement from XSEED Games had confirmed both titles would release very soon on Steam.
XSEED Games, the North American publisher of the No More Heroes series since Travis Strikes Again on the Switch, has revealed two different announcement trailers for the first two games, revealing that the titles are confirmed for PC. What's special about the surprise announcements is that both games will release within the next few days on June 9th, offering fans of the series to play the games much earlier than expected.
The fourth game in the series, No More Heroes 3, is slated to release on the Switch on August 27th with more information expected to be revealed during Nintendo's Direct at E3. While No More Heroes 3 is currently exclusive to the Switch, there's nothing preventing the third numbered title to make its way to PC in the future as Travis Strikes Again was also released on the PC shortly after its Switch release in 2019.
The series popularity had become a rallying cry for fans of the series, as petitions to get Travis Touchdown in Smash were at one point on the rise. While the No More Heroes protagonist ultimately failed to make it on the ever-growing roster of Nintendo's premiere fighting title, a Mii outfit based on Touchdown was eventually released with Sakurai acknowledging himself as a fan of the series.
The No More Heroes series is one of many titles that have made its way on the Steam platform from series developer Grasshopper Studios from the likes of director SUDA51. One of the first games to be released on Steam, Killer is Dead, was soon followed by an HD remaster of killer7, released on PC in 2018. A Switch port of killer7 was rumored in 2020 but was eventually shut down by Engine Software, the developers responsible for the HD remastered PC version.
No More Heroes 1 and 2 are available on the Switch, with the PC ports being released on June 9th.
