Pokemon GO Confirms GO Fest 2021 Featured Mythical Pokemon
Summer officially starts this weekend, which means Pokemon GO fans are just a month away from the biggest in-game event of the year. Pokemon GO Fest is back this July and once again the event is going to offer a chance for players around the globe to participate, rather than just fans who can travel to a specific city for an in-person gathering.
It has become tradition for GO Fest to debut a new Mythical Pokemon in Pokemon GO and the 2021 event will be no exception. GO Fest 2021 is a music-themed party and it is fitting that this year's Mythical featured Pokemon is going to be Meloetta, the Melody Pokemon.
At this point, no additional details have been shared about the exact steps players will need to take to earn an encounter with Meloetta, but it seems likely the Pokemon will appear at the end of a lengthy ticketed Special Research (similar to the 2020 Special Research requirements). In the weeks leading up to the event's July 17 start date players will likely learn a lot more about what to expect.
Meleotta is a pretty interesting Pokemon and has the ability to change forms from a Normal/Psychic type to a Normal/Fighting type based on whether it is in Aria Forme or Pirouette Forme. At this point it is unclear whether the mobile AR game's version of the Mythical Pokemon will feature a similar ability or not when it arrives in July for the GO Fest event.
Traditionally the Mythical Pokemon haven't really impacted the PvP or PvE metagame in PoGO, but they certainly represent hard to fill in Pokedex entries and help players push closer to that always moving complete Pokedex target. The event is sure to be another popular one and it is a safe bet that trainers will be out in full force the weekend of July 17 to complete whatever tasks and challenges are necessary to unlock Meloetta and any other unique rewards and encounters are up for grabs.
In the coming weeks, we should learn more about what other events will be arriving during the rest of the Season of Discovery. Be sure to check back in the near future for more Pokemon GO strategy guides, news, and updates. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!
Pokemon GO is available on Android and iOS.
