Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart Has Awesome Kingdom Hearts Easter Egg
The fabled day has arrived, and Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is now available for everyone with a PS5. Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart reviews have been largely positive, with everything from the graphics to the technical enhancements of the new-gen tech, making it a must-play for many.
Notably, the game is full of Easter eggs. Insomniac, prior to launch, had a little fun with this by showcasing the Ryno 8. This weapon is effectively an Easter egg gun, capable of utilizing characters, items, and whatnot from other franchises in the game for sheer hilarity. Insomniac itself showed off Easter eggs for Sunset Overdrive, Sly Cooper, and Horizon Zero Dawn. Of course, this weapon is only one avenue for Easter eggs, with the game also having an interesting reference for the beloved Kingdom Hearts series.
Kingdom Hearts has a lot going on within the franchise, with many aspects making for good Easter eggs. Theoretically, this could include the Heartless, Nobodies, and far more, but Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart keeps it simple. Easily, the most iconic parts of the Kingdom Hearts franchise are Sora and the Keyblade. This is combined with another iconic element from Ratchet and Clank, and that is gold bolts.
Gold bolts are a longstanding and staple collectible in the Ratchet and Clank franchise, and they make a return in Rift Apart. After players manage to collect enough gold bolts, one unlockable is labeled as the Wrench Swap Pack 1 (as seen above). This allows Ratchet's wrench to take on many forms, including that of a key (as seen below).
It only takes one glance at the key swap-in to make the Keyblade come to mind, but that's not all. While it's hard to mistake this as a reference for anything else, Insomniac doubles down just to make sure players are 100% aware of this Easter Egg. Reaffirming that this is indeed a Kingdom Hearts Easter Egg, not just some strange Key-Wrench, is that Ratchet will spin around it much like Sora does his keyblade.
Of course, this is but one of many Easter eggs to be found in Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart. It's still a very interesting one nonetheless, as while fans have been begging for Sora to appear in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (which is unlikely to ever happen), at least they know his legacy carries on in various Easter eggs around the video game industry, including this one.
Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is available now for PS5.
