Sonic Colors Ultimate: Full Level Gameplay Revealed | Game Rant
During Sonic the Hedgehog's own personal presentation of announcements back in late May, the remaster Sonic Colors Ultimate was announced to fans. While the reveal trailer did its part to explain the game and what would be in store for players, SEGA brought full gameplay with it to E3, fully showing how the remaster performs in action.
Sonic Colors was released on the Wii back in November 2010, having not seen a rerelease on any other platforms for over ten years. All that changed when Sonic Colors Ultimate was revealed during the Sonic Central presentation on May 27th, along with other announcements such as the teaser trailer for Sonic 2022.
During the Future Games Show, three levels were shared by SEGA including Tropical Resort Act 2, Planet Wisp Act 1, and Asteroid Coaster Act 1. The videos showcased the game with the upscaled and redefined maps and levels, as well as other detailed changes such as that a well-timed Homing Attack now has a rainbow effect to reassure players they've landed it correctly.
The gameplay videos do a great job at showing players what to expect when they get to experience the enhanced version of one of Sonic's fan-favorite titles in September, along with showing a few new features, such as instead of extra lives the player can receive special coins at the end of levels, presumably used to unlock the cosmetics for Sonic seen briefly in the trailer. While none of the videos show the new 'Tails Save' feature in action, the preview of Planet Wisp Act 1 has the player pick up one of Tails' icons, revealing that the two-tailed sidekick can come to help with two Tails Saves for one pick up.
After being trapped on the Wii, fans can enjoy re-experiencing Sonic Colors with the new release in new ways that might make the game feel different. Sonic Colors Ultimate reassures players that the fresh coat of paint will make the game shine, but fans may be satisfied with just being able to play this game after accidentally losing it to time.
It may serve that having the game be re-evaluated for beginners with adjusted visuals might be what this game needs to help it in the years that have passed it by. While some of the changes might leave some fans skeptical, they may feel better once they get to run through Eggman's Interstellar Amusement Park themselves once the game is released this fall.
Sonic Colors Ultimate releases on PlayStation 4, Stadia, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC on September 7th.
