Call of Duty Warzone Gulag Glitch Allows Players to be Killed by Earlier Fighters
Although the Battle Royale genre has exploded over the past couple of years, one of the defining features of Call of Duty: Warzone was its Gulag. In most battle royales, when a player gets killed, their game comes to an end, forcing them to requeue into another match. In Warzone, defeated players were brought to a jail known as the Gulag where they could earn a spot back in the match provided they could win a 1 on 1 fight against another eliminated player.
While the map and weapons available to players have since changed, the gameplay for the Gulag remains the same, even if odd bugs and glitches threaten to undermine the feature. One of the bigger ones recently discovered allows players to parachute into the gulag during a match and interrupt the fight. Worse yet, the parachuting player is invulnerable as the game thinks they're still up waiting for their turn. However, another strange Gulag glitch has been discovered, again letting players interrupt the 1v1 match.
The latest Call of Duty: Warzone bug comes from a Redditor known as Cracky6711. Upon loading into their Gulag match, they began moving towards the enemy only to be exploded by a claymore laying in wait. What doesn't make sense here is that the Gulag's random preset class at that point only had semtex, not a claymore. What's even more bizarre is that the killcam didn't know what to showcase, glitching out by showing a tree and the underside of a map.
As it turns out, the issue appears to be an issue with how the game handles explosives from earlier Gulag matches. For players who win their matchup, explosives that have been planted, such as claymores, are left behind. Players who are defeated have their explosives removed by the game, but players are finding that the winner's gear remains in place. Naturally, this gives Call of Duty: Warzone players one extra thing to be on the lookout for, even if it is likely an unintentional side effect by the developers.
Since season 4 began last month, fans have been largely displeased with the changes made to the Gulag. The biggest issue is with the map change, recreating the central area of Hijacked from the Black Ops series. Ultimately, fans have noticed that the sound in the Gulag, especially other players, are too loud, preventing the combatants from hearing footsteps. Others are displeased with how large the map is, causing matches to go on for far too long while others have noticed that sometimes teammates are split up, potentially giving an advantage to those who are not split up and can continue providing guidance.
Call of Duty: Warzone is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
