Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin - How to Get Tigrex
Hatching and raising Monsties is a key focus in Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin, and players are likely to want to find their favorite monster from the franchise to adventure around with. For many, that favorite monster is the Tigrex, flagship monster of the breakout title Monster Hunter Freedom Unite. Even players that don't consider the Tigrex their favorite monster would do well to include one on their team of Monsties, as these beasts are both powerful and intimidating. For those wondering how they can go about getting a Tigrex egg and hatching one for themselves, look no further.
While Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin lets players have Monsties as allies, wild monsters cannot be tamed. Instead, it's up to the player to poach an egg from a monster and hatch it back at the village. There are multiple methods players can use to find an egg, but there is one way to reliably get Tigrex eggs.
When searching for a specific egg of any type (except Elder Dragon eggs), the best thing to do is to find that monster in the wild. Early on in the game, players can find Tigrex as a royal monster in the Alcala region. The player will find them sleeping in specific spots, and there is always at least one within the Harzgai Hills area. This enemy will be incredibly tough to take on at this stage in the game, but if players can get it to retreat, then they can follow it back to its den.
The royal monster Tigrex starts the fight off using only Speed attacks. To counter this, players should bring a Technical type Monstie into the fight with them and use Technical type attacks against the beast. Keep an eye out for the occasional Rock Shooter attack, as this will hit one ally at random and most likely one hit KO them. Eventually, Tigrex's head will turn red as it enters rage mode, at which point it will start using Power attacks instead. Switch to a Speed Monstie and start using Speed attacks, but bear in mind that the Tigrex will now make two attacks each turn.
It really helps to use a shock trap against Tigrex at this point, and if the player breaks its head with a great sword while it is in a shock trap, it is almost guaranteed to retreat. Regardless, use a paintball before the monster falls in combat and hope it retreats. If it does, follow it back to its den and gather up a Tigrex egg while is sleeps.
Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin is available now on PC and Switch.
