Persona 25th Anniversary Event Set for Sept; Persona 6 Reveal Possible
2021 is arguably a big and important year for Atlus’s RPG series Persona. Not only is the franchise celebrating its 25th year anniversary, but the Persona series has also recently reached an incredible 15 million in sales milestone across its different titles. Now, the company is teasing an exciting anniversary event for this coming September, and may even announce news about the highly-anticipated Persona 6 video game.
With a turn-based battle system, Tarot-themed character designs, and life simulation gameplay, many gamers likely did not expect the Persona series to take off on a global scale. Though some of the older titles such as Persona 3 and Persona 4 were able to slowly build a niched player following in the west, it was the latest iteration, Persona 5, that amassed the most online popularity and hype. This can be seen in how the game was nominated for categories in The Game Awards during its launch year, and has consistently trended on social media platforms due to its avid fans.
On the official Atlus West Twitter account, the team posted a brand new artwork that celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Persona series. In the photo, the main protagonists of Persona 1 through Persona 5 are featured, including the female main character in Persona 3. The caption states that September is the official anniversary month of the franchise. The post also seems to be teasing fans that news, announcements, and possible events will be revealed leading up to the official celebration. As of writing, the tweet already has more than 6,000 retweets and 23,000 likes, indicating the high interest and excitement of the series's fanbase.
Though not mentioned at all in the Twitter post, it is possible that Atlus will mention Persona 6 amidst all the franchise’s anniversary festivities. Given that there has not been any official news from the development team, fans have likely already spent a lot of time online speculating about the sixth game, especially about Persona 6’s high school setting, characters, narrative, and more.
With September being barely three months away, Persona fans do not have to wait that long until they can get solid information from Atlus about the future of the role-playing series. Hopefully the team listens to the community, and provides more updates on the development of Persona 6. If not, fans can simply enjoy the possible new collaborations and events instead. No doubt, this is still a great way to celebrate the 25 years the Persona series has been out in the market.
